Hey everyone just looking for someone who might have had experience with this. I'm not one to hurt myself much as I am a profession couch potato :goodvibes but here goes.

Around mid-November I bruised my ankle area. It was really on the front of my leg but at ankle level. I don't know what I did--probably ran into the dishwasher when the door was down or had my new 200 lb vacuum hit me in the shin when going up the stairs with it. Whatever, I don't know exactly as I can't quite remember but it was when I was on a cleaning frenzy--a rare occurrence these days! But I got a good bruise in the area and it was quite painful. I noticed that it was one of those bruises that is more than superficial and had the thick lump under it. No big deal--have had that before. I also noticed at some point during this whole thing that the bruise must have "leaked" some blood as I had a blueish/purple streak of blood under the skin behind my ankle bone. That has since all gone away.

After 4 weeks, the many different colors went away about 90% as did most of the lump. Over the last two weeks, I have a very small area of slight discoloration to the skin and under this area is still a small lump. It must have been the place that took the hit. What I find odd about this is that this area has sort of stayed the same for 2 weeks. No real improvement and that when I get up in the morning, there is absolutely no swelling and the lump is so minimal it's almost not there. Yet after I'm upright for about 2 hours, the lump is back. I guess that is a circulation thing or something.

I've tried massaging the area but that seems to aggravate it.

I guess I'm just looking to see if anyone has had anything like this.

I'm going to give it another 2 weeks to see if I get any more improvement and, if not, will go in to see someone about it.

Blood in a severe bruise can calcify and form a lump. I would suggest freezing water in dixie cups (1/2 full) then doing an ice massage of the area. Once the area is numb you can apply a good amount of pressure with the ice cup and try to break up the calcification-do this for about 10 minutes. Follow this up with some heat (hot pack or a wet washcloth warmed up in the microwave) for about 5 minutes, then ice again for 5 minutes. You should see some improvement after a couple days. If this doesn't help at all, go get it looked at. Do this at least 3 times/day.

In college I walked into a trailer hitch ball on the back of a truck. I had a huge bruise and a lump inder the skin. The bruise went away but the lump never did. It has now been 10 years and the lump is still there. I have had it checked out multiple times and have been assured that it isn't going to hurt anything, it's just strange.

Last week of May I dropped a surfboard on my leg and the edge left a 4 inch bruise on my lower shin slightly to the right of center. The bruise hung around till mid August and I still have a slight discoloration under the skin and pain with direct pressure even now. My doctor said in November it's just a really deep bruise (probably went deep enough to envolve the bone as well) and probably damaged tissue all the way down. It will take longer to heal and may leave some discoloration always. I do bruise easily and have always had them heal slower.

I try not to mess with bruises because I am on BC and over 40 and you can have a higher probablility of dangerous blood clotting and the last thing I want is to break up the blood clotting in the bruise and sending it through my system, probably just in my head but I figure it'll eventually reabsorb without me rubbing around on it.

I have bad news Christine, you will live to clean another day. :goodvibes

My kid got one of those bruises on his forehead. Oh that was a very bad day. Anyway, he was two years old at the time. Now he is 27 - and he still has the little lump, about the size of a marble.

House work is dangerous to your health - this is one more anecdote for my collection. Hope you feel better.
