I admit to being Slot Machine Clueless. I put my money in, I push the "Play" button and don't know what the heck I'm doing.

Am I the only one? :p

Isn't that all your supposed to do???

Put money in....push button.....loose money???

Sounds like you know what you're doing to me. There is no rhyme or reason to slot machines. And the payout is horrible. You just plug in the the money, hit play or pull the arm and hope for the jackpot. Most non-gamblers play them and they make a ton of money for the casinos.

Try some video poker. A little more thought required and better odds of winning.

Well, I guess you're supposed to know what buttons to push before pushing Play. Like the ones that say "Bet one line", "Bet two lines", etc. - I just don't even bother with them, because I don't know what they mean. Maybe if I learned what they were, I could win someday.:p :p

I usually stick to just video poker. I feel I have a little control........darn little!!!:teeth:

Nah, of course I don't understand - I just press every button that's flashing - LOL! :p :p :p

The rule is the more you bet the more chances you have to win. If you're talking lines you'll see a description on the machine of the lines, and the lines will usually light up when you push the buttons so ifyoyou bet one line (it's most likely the straight across line), if you hit 2 lines you'll probably see the top across and the middle across, three will be all 3 across, etc. then you get into diagonals and weird lines. Anyway the more lines you bet the more likely you are to get something on atleast one line you've bet on. (this is probably just making it more confusing, sorry!). Anyway I usually play slots (But usually nickel slots), and I usually come out even, every once in a while I'll come out ahead and go home, but it's all in good fun. Tables are too expensive anymore, you normally have to bet like 5 bucks a bet min. @ the tables, I could play slots on 5 bucks for 2-3 hours if i'm doing OK.

Hope this brings you good fortune :p

tricia.

You are helping make the casino a bit richer, you a bit poorer, albeit at least, with a smile, if you enjoy that. :teeth:

Now i get it. slot machines are all luck, there is no skill involved. basically when you bet more than one line it's like better on more than one chance. Instead of just winning if the middle line makes a "match" you can win if the top or even bottom line matches.

Does that make sense?

say you bet 3 lines, you have 3 chances to win but it also costs you 3x as much. next time you are playing you should see little numbers on the side of the screen, 1...2...3 those are the line numbers. Some fancy slots have like 15 lines in all wacky directions.

Slots are all luck and you generally loose money playing them. You have more control over video poker if you like machine games. Table games usually have better odds and you can pay longer on your money.

Funny you should mention this. DH decided to take a little trip to The Seneca Casino in Niagara Falls, NY a few weeks ago. I had beginners luck. I was playing the quarter machines at 25 cents a spin. I saw a lady next to me winning a little bit here and there. She was playing the max--- 75 cents a spin. She said you win more money if you play the max ( I didn't even know this). I came with 100 dollars that I was prepared to loose. Taking her advice, I started playing the max. I then hit a $2500 jackpot.:D My DH was playing video poker elsewhere so he missed my big moment. I stopped after my win because the slots look so addicting. However, the casino hopes that once you win their money, you get the "fever" and give it all back to them.

I thought of the slots as grown up arcade games. You have to go with a limit of how much you are willing to loose. If you pass that limit, STOP! If you win big, STOP!

Here's my method. We occasionaly go down to Wheeling Island in WV. I take $200 in $10 bills. I split it into 2 envelopes of $100, so I can gauge how much I have left. Any money I "cash in", I put in the back of my wallet and continue to play with the money I brought. I've never been tempted to dip into my "winnings". I mostly play quarter machines with the max bet (usually 3). I put in $10 and I move on to another machine if it hits 0. I usually only cash in if it's more than $30 (120 quarters). If it hits for a decent amount, I'll keep playing it for a little longer, many times it will hit again. Went last Saturday, I hit for about 120 quarters but thought this machine looked good so I kept playing. Hit for 720 quarters! I cashed in $200 and no luck after that, so I broke even. Usually spend about 3 hours there including a break for lunch. That's long enough for us.

I've tried the nickel machines with all the lines but they don't make sense to me either. I've heard they are the lowest paying machines in the casino, so I don't play them.

Alrighty...I work at the Atlantic City Hilton Casino and am quite familiar with slots. OP, are you tlking about the classic 3 reel slots or the video slots? Any questions, I'm sure I'll be able to help you! ::yes::

I love playing slots. Over a two year period, I won almost $8000 playing slots. You have to bet big to win big. I always bet the max. I have won on quarter slots and dollar slots. I don't like the new video slot machines. You have to put in so much money to increase your odds of winning. I prefer the old fashion slot machines. Now that I'm in Orlando, I'm sort of having slot withdrawal. Probably not a bad thing. The most important thing to remember when playing slot machines...only put in money you can afford to lose!

You hit the nail on the head! But SOME table games have worse odds than a decent slot machine, especially roulette and certain bets on a craps table. Video poker is better, but only experts at the game can really make a machine pay out, and some video poker machines have terrible pay schedules, study them before you sit down and play.

I've always done okay with slots, usually break out even but once won enough money to buy the new t.v. I'd been wanting! Plus I find slot machines more fun, anyway, but that's just a personal preference.

Good luck!

Always bet the max! I've been so ticked off when I didn't and won, seeing what I "could have" won!

Something I saw a lady in a cruise ship casino doing - she was going around, machinge to machine, betting the max and moving on.

Feralpig - have you tried the casino ships in FL? We always do the Emerald Princess from Brunswick, GA, but I understand the ones off the E Coast of FL, from Daytona to maybe FLL are great!

Video slots. I rarely go to a casino, but when I do, I bring "X" number of dollars, which I know I'm going to lose - and when it's gone, so am I.

I guess my question is - after I put my money in the machine, and every button on the darned thing lights up, what do I press first? Or do I just go with "Play" and hope for the best? ;)

That's why I said "Table games USUALLY have better odds...":p

I've lost far too much money on roulette than to suggest that it's odds are favorable :hyper:

I haven't played enough craps to know what's what. I generally try to stick to blackjack and table poker but I do play video poker every so often. The problem these days is that poker is so hot you get a lot of yahoos at the low limit tables. My mom will play the high stakes but I hate to loose that much money. It's great when you win but I don't get enough enjoyment from the game to not feel terrible when I loose.

I bought my own slot machine and now every quarter I put in it, I win! Kind of a nice piggy bank.

I love playing the slots and the tables. My favorite slot machine to play is Wheel of Fortune since you can get the bonus spin and get more points. I also like Top Dollar, but that machine is not as easy to find in Vegas.

:wave2: :teeth: Not a clue what I'm doing. When I was little, I gave my father a quarter and he put it in a slot machine to show me the evil of the reels. I won $25. Great lesson, Daddy! ;)

Now, I just play what I can afford to lose and hit whatever flashing buttons I feel like. DH won $300 in video poker, but that's too complicated for me.
