Do you like to go skiing?

I went skiing 1 time and I hated it - and I mean hated it!!!!
I hated being all bundled up in the cold, and sweating my butt off because I'm trying to move around with those skis.
I hated that my gloves got destroyed on the tow rope to get up the hill.
I hated walked around with those clunky ski boots on.
I just hated everything about it.

Now....I have many friends that love skiing - they think it's the best thing ever. We've learned to agree to disagree :thumbsup2

Poll coming!!!

I'm not a big fan of downhill skiing. I've always felt out of control and have had too many incidents due to other people on the slopes
I LOVE cross country skiing though. It's so peaceful, you are completely in control of yourself, and you don't have to worry to much about the other people on the trails. It's also good exercise (and I hate to exercise...)

I LOVE to ski. There are few pleasures in the world that can compare to me as much as the joy of skiing. Unfortunately where I now live, skiing is not an option, but once in a while when we get back to the states (particulary New England) I get a chance to go skiing again.
My wife is the opposite she hates it with a passion. I took her skiing one time (paid for the rentals and the ski lift ticket) she goes to the top of the bunny slope, falls down one time, takes her skis off, walks down the hill (can't call it a mountain), goes in the lodge, sits by the fire, and waits for me to finish. What a fun day that was.:sad2:

I don't like downhill skiing. I think it's the being all bundled up that bothers me. I hate feeling all puffy, unable to move freely, and wearing those bulky boots.

I'm happy to meet everyone back at the bar!

My family are skiiers so I went skiing alot growing up. It wasn't the greatest thing ever but it wasn't horrible. I might go again since my boyfriend wants to go but who knows!

I will do it if I have to.

Which is pretty sad, as I live about an hour and a half from some of the best slopes in the country. (Vail, Copper Moutain, Breckenridge, Beaver Creek, etc).

I hate being cold, I hate the chair lifts, I hate the clunky boots, I pretty much dislike everything about it.

I will join the poster at the bar while the rest of the party skiis to their delight!

Love it...:thumbsup2 . I started skiing when I was 5 years old, and DH and I had DS out on the slopes for the first time when he was 2. He was skiing by himself some last year (he was 3), so we can't wait to see how he does this year!:cool1:

I'm in the "never tried it and never will" category. It doesn't appeal to me. I have tried cross country and that was o.k. I do love the thought of ski lodges though and the burning fire place and drinks.

The only winter thing I do is sledding with DD's on the hill near our house. I don't like being outside in the snow too much. Brrrr...

i used to ski but due to my Retinitis Pigmentosa it is too dangerous for me now I feel. My husband and youngest daughter ski and my 2 oldest kids board, I really like for them all to have a nice family hobby together.

I like skiing, but I haven't been in over seven years. And I have a nice pair of skis too. :goodvibes

We are a family of skiers -- DH, DS, me, DD, DB, Dniece & Dnephew. My inlaws ski as well, although they don't belong to our ski resort. Sometimes we go out w/them, though. We go out every weekend and look forward to it b/c it's a huge thing for us -- we all bring food to share, ski together and have a blast!

Unfortunately, we've only been out 2x this winter b/c the snow isn't there! We had a cold spell w/some snow and they were able to make snow earlier this month, but then the temps got high, the snow isn't there and the current weather isn't helping at all. I thought we'd be skiing every day during Christmas vacation (as we've done in years past) but Mother Nature has not been kind to ski country this year and we're v. disappointed. :sad1:

Never been skiiing and don't want to.

I'm a southern girl, ya'll, born in New Orleans now living in Florida so it really never comes up. And, I've never traveled to ski areas.

Nope, I am not a ski kinda girl. Has never interested me. The only thing do to with ski that appeals to me is sitting in the lodge in front of the fire indulging in a yummie drink.

I like to ski, but need to practice more on the steeper slopes to feel more in control. I'm a bit nervous at the moment as my last ski lesson was on the steep slope and I had stopping issues!! DH and I are goin for more lessons soon thoughs I am determined to get over my nervousness!!

Skiing... riiiiiiiight. I am so not coordinated enough to ski. I can't even rollerskate without risking serious injury! :rotfl: Being a lifelong resident of FL, I've only seen snow once, and it didn't even stick to the ground. But I did try waterskiing once. :lmao: Won't ever try that again!

I think skiing is the best thing ever! Cross-country skiing that is.

I'm totally with you on hating to dress myself up in bundles, destroy my gloves on tow ropes and clunk around in ski boots! Plus, what sane individual above the age of 20 would go and hurl themselves off a mountain on two sticks?!

However I am a cross country ski devotee! You generate enough body heat through all your activity that layering is the prefered method of dressing (no bundling). The boots are designed to permit ankle movement (no klunking) and your gloves won't get destroyed on tow ropes since they aren't required in x-country!

As an added bonus you get to see some of the most beautiful, serene scenes as a x-country skiier that most downhiller's don't. We usually hit some abandoned railroad tracks with a good snow pack and nothing can beat some of the peaceful woodland scenes we've glided through. Very cool!

When I was in college I did go downhill skiing probably about a dozen times (that's before my DH, then DBF, got some sence and decided that downhill skiing hurt) and I did okay, but my knees would ache the next day and I just didn't really enjoy it that much to do it often. When my kids get older and want to try it, I'll hit the bunny hills with them, but until then I'm content to stick to the snow tubing areas at our local ski resorts - much more fun and no body aches the day after.

I've been x-country skiing since I was about 6 so it's always been more of a family and intergenerational thing for me. Even my non-athletic dad enjoys x-country so that's what I prefer. We have some great trails around here - just no snow at the moment.

Don't write off skiing period, give x-country a try!

I loved it when I was in my 20s and 30s. Now that I'm in my 40s I like it, but I don't like how sore it makes my body afterward! I also hate skiing with my husband -- he's a natural athlete and an expert skiier, and so unbelievably competitive. He is not happy with the fact that I'm very satisfied never getting past being an intermediate skiier -- he's constantly on me to take it to the next level. Uhhh, I don't think so pal. One parent in this family has to ensure she has legs to walk on.

So I guess my answer really should be, I like skiing, as long as my body is fit and its with someone other than my husband. And since I'm in my mid 40s and my body is not as fit as it used to be, and I never go skiing unless its with my husband, I guess I don't like it that much after all. :p Thanks for helping me clear that up for myself. :p

I love to ski, however DH loves it more and is far more advanced than I am. He cannot understand why I don't want to progress past the blue square runs. Those black & double blacks just aren't appealing to me. Skiing on the west coast is fantastic. We have over 100 inches of snow right now and more to come.
