We live in a 225+ year old house, the former, Captain Samuel Jones Tavern.

We use 3 rooms upstairs as bedrooms & another room, the largest, was used as an 'assembly' room.
You could use it as a bedroom, but the arrangement in relation to another bedroom, off of it, makes for an odd flow to modern tastes. Of course, in tavern days they, slept folks all over the place

That is too cool.

We have ours down and 3 up. When we bought the house I didn't want us on a different floor, but I did feel we needed at least one down in case we should need to take on our parents at some point. The stairs might be too much for them. Now I like being down when the boys are up.............except during storms when I worry about tornados.

we have three, but the house was intended to have four(a larger master suite with a sitting area and 3 others. The original owner's decided to put the laundry room upstairs (it also doubles as the playroom). I love having it upstairs, I just wish they had used the smaller bedroom instead of the larger of the 3.
