What’s your opinion of Manwich to make Sloppy Joes?

For Me….I somewhat like it 😐
It’s perfect for a quick meal (I try very hard to not buy takeout unless I’m desperate).
I would like a good recipe to make Sloppy Joes from scratch. If you have one please share it 🙂

*Inspiration for todays poll is me making this last night for us to eat tonight. DD18 has a 7:00pm game, so she can eat this real quick before she leaves and DH and I can quickly eat this after work before we leave to go the game. It’s one of those go go go type of days - definitely no time to cook - I’m so glad I made this last night 🙂👍🏻

I used to make sloppy joes with Manwich but my sons were not big fans of it.

I like Sloppy Joes and always used Manwich, but since moving here and becoming the cook I don't make them. My aunt in particular won't eat any form of ground meat no matter what I do with it.

My family loves them ! I add little extra sugar & vinegar to them - I only buy regular flavor
I am not huge fan of loose meat sandwiches but will eat these - we have them about every two months
They must be popular as it’s often out of stock at the store for regular flavor and this was long before Covid shortages
I was very surprised the last time I purchased it to see how many different flavors you could get / although I’m not interested in trying them

Good luck with the game !!!! I hope they win !!! 🍀🍀🍀🍀

if I've had one, it's been over 30 years, maybe as a kid. Also never ate/eat any type of sloppy joes. Well I do remember having them sometimes for school lunches, and my ex liked them, so probably made them in my 20s, but personally dislike.

I haven't made Manwich in YEARS but I used to like it. I make sloppy joes using my sister-in-law's recipe that are very reminiscent of Manwich, but better. It's more work to make them from scratch, but they also taste better.

I really like Manwich, but DH does not, so I don't make it anymore. He thinks it's too sweet. I do occasionally make Sloppy Joes from scratch. I heavily modified recipe from a 1950s Slovak-American cookbook that my grandmother used. Basically, I cut out the sweetness and made it more savory for DH.

"Barbecued Beef on Bun " Original Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
1 large chopped onion
1 chopped bell pepper
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1 tablespoon prepared mustard
1 tablespoon vinegar
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup catsup

"Barbecued Beef on Bun " Modified Ingredients for Picky Husbands
1 lb ground beef
1 large chopped onion
1 chopped bell pepper
1 sticks chopped celery
1 tablespoon prepared mustard
1 tablespoon vinegar
3 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon thyme
1 8 oz can of tomato sauce

Brown meat. Combine and then add the remaining ingredients. Cover and simmer 30 minutes. Serve on toasted bun.

I picked other. Not sure if we've had that in the past. We did used to have Sloppy Joe's years back, maybe when the kids were still here, but I think (pretty sure) that Marie always made it scratch. I don't think she used store bought. But, in any case, have not had for quite a few years that I can recall.

Good luck for Katie and her team tonight, as well as for her upcoming graduation. Congratulations to her, and you guys also.

We ate them a couple of times/month growing up. They were good! They're on DW's list of Foods She No Longer Eats, so it's been a long time since I've had one.

I don't think I've ever had it. We usually use the packet of dry seasonings when making sloppy joes.

I said it was just ok, haven’t had it since I was a kid.

I can’t recall ever having Manwich. I doubt my mother ever bought it, or maybe she tried it once. I know I never purchased it. We were never big Sloppy Joe fans anyway.

I somewhat like it.
I really do like Sloppy Joes. But we are done with Manwich since we found a replacement brand ( DelFrate).

Other. I don't mind having it if someone serves it, but I don't go out of my way. I do have a great sloppy joe recipe, and if I get the hankering, I'll use that. I don't think it's been more than once every 5-7 years.

Like others here I rarely have sloppy joes. I would go so far to say as I haven't had a sloppy joe since maybe Clinton was president.

Manwich has since come to sound like something that comes out of the woods at night, preventable with a gazing ball in your yard and some twigs shaped into a pentagram.

And finally:

I have only ever had it once in my life, that I recall, and I was not impressed by it. I prefer to make sloppy joes a different way

I've made Sloppy Joes in the past......but not in years.
Never used Manwich
