Well, it depends on who I am texting. My dh, dd, and sister it is just K. None of us take offense. My sister and I did it for a long time until her son told her how rude it is to just type K. We still use it amongst ourselves because we don't see it that way.

Everyone else, ok.
My son also told me K is only used when you are mad, otherwise it’s rude

We always type Okay

Mostly okay, sometimes OK, never K. I don’t use any of the text abbreviations, such as R for are or U for you. I may be brief in my texts, but not to the point where I substitute a single letter or number for a word.

I think so.

When I text back and forth with MIL, it still looks like e-mails. :rotfl2:

Like so much in life, I guess it's a "know your audience" thing.
Same with my mom.
One day she asked me why DD19’s texts are so short (she seemed to have hurt feelings) and I told her kids aren’t writing a letter, their texts are straight & to the point. She still didn’t want to accept it, but I told her that DD isn’t going to change how she texts for only you. I explained to her that this is how it’s done, so she needs to adapt and accept it. She said she will, but I know down deep she still wants DD to write her a letter, but with a text, when my mom is texting her something that requires a short answer - LOL!

Not messing with you, the period changes the meaning--usually adding a negative, stern or reluctant subtext.
Wow! I had no idea. Now trying to figure out how many people I’ve offended. I like punctuation and typically have no negative intent.

I feel about a decade older than I did before I read this, but I appreciate the heads up!

If you stop using periods wouldn't what you type look like a runon sentence and be harder to read? Somewhat like never having paragraphs when writing a lengthy reply.

I always use periods if I'm typing multiple sentences. If it's only one sentence or not even a full sentence I might not use one just out of laziness

The thing that kills me is that those abbreviations are already for very short words! Can't type three letters, kiddos? 🙄

Sometimes I remind DS of my old flip phone, on which you had to use the letters written under the numerals and arrow over to each one individually to create a text. :rotfl2:

  • Haha
Reactions: slo
Between my sister and I we say 'okie,' short for 'okie dokey pokey,' which has been a joke between us for years and years.

I just finished a book in which one of the character texted K when meaning OK. I think this was the first I ever noticed using K, and on the day this poll came out!

It took us forever to send a text.

That’s when
RU
YW
TY
LOL
TTYL
and so many others started - it was just easier to do that
