Do you or did you enjoy hiking?

For Me….No, not a fan :sad2:
I was not raised to enjoy the great outdoors - my family never camped or hiked.
(I was raised to enjoy looking at the great outdoors, we went to many beautiful places and would drive around, just not camp or hike around)
I’m not lazy - I love walking, but not in a hiking setting. Granted, I’ve never tried it and I might have liked it, but since I need both my knees replaced, walking in a hiking setting would not be good for me now. I’ve done 2 half marathons in the last 10 years, which I had to stop too, which is why the elliptical is my exercise of choice today.

I used to like it
Bad back - multiple spinal surgeries and still need more
So hiking is not something I can do - I have enough issues walking so no hiking for me
I used to enjoy those things but can’t do them anymore - if I did it would have to be small one with little hills and it would take me a long time - more strolling - I’m a stroller now not a hiker
Or it’s I need a stroller ? Yeah that’s the one 👍👍🤣🤣🤣🤣

I wasn't raised in an outdoorsy family either, but DH was, he introduced me to it and I love it. Hiking is my jam. Turns out my Slovak/Ruthenian ancestors were from the mountains and I feel it. Shenandoah, My. Rainier, Olympic. It's heaven to me.

We've even done a bit of tent camping, though I really do prefer the fancy lodges or our RV.

It’s funny. We don’t think much about hiking in general, but our vacations almost always include some great trails. In just the last couple years, we’ve hiked many miles in the Smoky Mountains, Alaska, Upstate New York, and South Dakota. They have all been day hikes—no backpacking/camping—but some have been pretty long and strenuous. I’m actually looking into Glacier National Park as a possible next vacation.

I love hiking and being outdoors. It is truly my happy place. It calms me and gets me away from all the stress of modern day life. Walking is definitely a form of self care for me. Of course, hiking up a mountain sure does get harder as you get older, but I still love it.

I also love camping but will admit that it is work. I am talking about tent camping. It makes me feel like a kid again crawling into a sleeping bag at night. As a matter of fact, we just got back a week ago from a 10 day family camping trip along the Maine coast and are already looking forward to going again next year. My husband and I are also doing a 5 night camping trip to Acadia NP where we plan to do some hiking in a few weeks.

I also live in New England where fall hiking is spectacular when the leaves change colors and the air is crisp and cool. That is without doubt my favorite time of year to hike.

Hike vs. going for a walk. I'd like to try. When I think of hiking I think of hoofing it long distances in the woods and camping out.

I enjoy going to the local trail and going for a walk, or just an hour or so hike as I live a mile from the North Country Trail.

I like hiking and there are a lot of nice trails around where I live. I max out at a few hours a day, though, and I'm definitely not camping.

I like hiking and wish I could do it more. I was in a car accident about 4 years ago and basically had to learn to walk again, so I try not to take my mobility for granted. I love being able to get out and go.

One of the things DW and I want to do after I retire is walk the Camino de Santiago, a series of pilgrimage trails that converge in Santiago de Compostela, Spain.

I don't like to hike.....never did. I like to walk but want to enjoy the surroundings if I am in a hiking area.
And....too much work and I am also one that does not really enjoy the outdoors.

See we are a group of strollers !! Out enjoying nature at our leisure - at a distance away from the bugs / now I need to invent an adult stroller for those young hikers to push us around in 🤣🤣 Then we can sit back and relax with a snack and glass of wine and enjoy the view / see reverse circle of life - like when they were little and we pushed them around - hmm I never used a stroller ( I won’t tell DD so she will push me in my adult stroller ) - she loves hiking - can’t wait to spring this on her 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

No, hiking’s not for me. I don’t have a great appreciation for nature, although I somehow feel like I should. And when it comes to walking, it’s only a form of conveyance from one place to another, not something I do for its own sake.

I love hiking. The rest of my family, not so much. I can get them out once in a while, but they complain the whole time.

I love it, but I'm only a day hiker; I've only done an overnight backpacking trip once for just a night, and that was many years ago, and with much more experienced people coordinating it. I wouldn't mind getting some longer full day hikes in, but the kids max out around 5 miles - depending on how strenuous it is. (Though I am extremely happy they will go that far - at their age I wouldn't have gone a fraction of that!)

I don't understand the statements that some enjoy walking but not hiking. It's kind of the same thing in my mind ? Hiking is just walking in a more interesting place than around the neighborhood or city - especially if you choose the easier hikes without much elevation change.

Sure, there is plenty of great scenery you can see from a car window, but the really special things I've found often require a bit of a hike / walk.

I like walking and would like hiking (not camping) if it weren’t for critters. We were enjoying a walk (hike?) through a NJ park this summer when a huge black snake dashed in front of me. This thing was really big and really fast. Now when I’m in a park I can’t get the thought out of my mind, so it’s not enjoyable. I’ll stick to populated walking areas.
