Do you put your Christmas tree garland on your tree before or after you hang your ornaments?

For Me……Before I hang the ornaments.
The reason behind this poll is that my mom puts them on after hanging her ornaments. When I was talking with her yesterday, she said she was finishing up her tree and she only had the garland left. I asked her if she already hung her ornaments and she said yes. I told her I’ve never heard of anyone doing the garland last. Then I thought…..maybe there’s others like her :scratchin.

We don't put garland on the tree. We do put it up around our wood beam that goes into the living room with Christmas lights attached.

We use ribbons and a beaded garland. They always go on first. I'm not even sure how it'd work to put them on last. Wouldn't you cover up the ornaments? There's a proper order: lights, garland, ornaments.

Neither. I don’t use garland. I think when I was young mom put it on after all the ornaments.

Lights first than garland, than ornaments. Used to add tinsel at the end but heard cats eat it and didn’t want poor Buddy pooping out tinsel …lol

One tree has silver garland and one has ribbon. 2 smaller trees don’t have any.

I do move my ornaments around a few times to get it right.

When I was a kid we used gsrland - went on last
I don’t use it - but have in past - went on last - but I didn’t cover my ornaments - stopped using it years ago - not sure why as it does look nice on the tree 👍

I voted Other. I use ribbon in the same way one would use garland. I believe it should go on first, and then you fill up the remaining spaces with the ornaments.

This exactly! And I voted “Other” because I use garland and tinsel, painstakingly added strand-by-strand. It’s the very last thing to go on. 🎄

Garland before ornaments. I would like to add tinsel but my garland is a bright lime green and I haven’t found tinsel to match.

Where we position our tree, you can’t get behind it, so one person stands on either side and we toss the garland to each other as it goes around the back of the tree. I wouldn’t want to risk knocking an ornament off during the process.

Have not used garland for quite some time now. I think it was last.

I recall using tinsel years back. When I was a kid, it was actually lead tinsel, not vinyl or aluminum. It was very heavy. My brother, sister and I would smash the lead strip into heavy, little balls. Couldn't use them then, got yelled at by mom and dad.. Also, we would start out, placing strand by strand. In 10 minutes though, we would be flinging it on the tree, probably getting yelled at again.. In the end though, looked very pretty.

I don't typically use garland, but we did a gold bead one on a tree years ago - definitely before the ornaments.

No tinsel either...because cats, but I remember having that as a kid (we called it icicles) and my mom was very into the one strand at a time thing. That did go on last.

This. It’s a two day process here. Lights, garland and snowflakes one day and ornaments the next.

The last couple of years it’s been beads and “popcorn” garland. I like to mix things up every couple of years. I’ve done ribbon, paper chains, rag, bows, “cranberries” and the traditional garland. My tree never looks the same. (I change out the type of lights and “base” ornaments too)
