There are so many pretty and fun placemats available for us to decorate our kitchens table with, but not many of us have them. When I was a kid I knew families were the family always ate dinner with their plates on placemats. My mom never had placemats, so I always felt awkward eating on them. I remember getting nervous about getting food on them, when I was a friends house for dinner. Fast forward to my adult life, I do not have us eat on placemats, but I do enjoy decorative placemats. What does your kitchen table look like in regards to placemats - let us know……

Do you have placemats on your table?
If yes….are they decorative only, or are they something you eat on?
(multiple choice)

For Me……The only time I have placemats on the table are over certain holidays. I have fun Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter placemats. They are decorative only, so we do not eat on them. I also have very fun Disney plastic placemats that we used to eat on when the girls ate lunch outside by the pool - these were never used inside the house. We do have a dining room, and I have never put placemats on our dining room table.

We always have placemats in both the kitchen and dining room and we use them. We do have different placemats that are used depending on the occasion but we do always use them. We don't have tablecloths so have to use them to stop the table top being marked.

Both tables are decorated with placemats all the time and charger plates and cloth napkins !! The only time you were not to use your placements is that Christmas when I have the really fancy ones on otherwise you can use them

My Mom loved placemats and used them all the time when we were growing up. I didn't follow in her footsteps on this one.

I use placemats with a tablecloth in the dining room sometimes - basically the holiday dinners, Thanksgiving, Christmas day, New Years day and Easter Sunday. Otherwise, it's a pink marble table that doesn't need to be covered, it's lovely as it is (DH's parents were very fashionable, we inherited lots of mod pieces of furniture).

We've never been a placemats family, but we got a new dining table recently and have been using them to protect it.

I voted "other." We don't have anything on the kitchen table.

The formal dining room does not have placemats, but I I do have chargers on it.

I have placemats for every holiday and in between.
4 on the kitchen table and 3 on the kitchen bar (that's where DH and I eat our meals).
None on the dining room table. Table cloth there.....I have those for every holiday, a birthday one and others for in between

No placemats , didn’t have them growing up but husbands family use them.

I do have table clothes on both tables that gets taken off before we eat. Except for holidays stays on than but don’t do chargers or fancy napkins.

I have every seasonal table clothes , even lace spider web over white cloth for Halloween.

My mom uses placemats so I grew up with them but I don’t use them. The one time I bought one are those toddler ones that you can put down at restaurant or somewhere to help with the mess.

Used to have them, more or else decorative. Some were gifts, some souvenirs from travel. No longer have them.

I actually collect placemats and use them at every meal. I learned how to set a pretty table way back in high school. I think a pretty table setting makes the meal a happier time.

I have them. Mostly cloth, but some plastic. My mother used to make us move them when we ate to "keep them nice," so I adopted that as well. DH is so well-trained that he moves the plastic ones (which don't need to be moved).

Mine are mostly seasonal.

No placemats. I set a fancy table with either a tablecloth or a decorative runner but for everyday, our glass-topped table is bare with just a centrepiece.

We don't use placemats. Our kitchen table is a craft center for the five-year-old; he's always drawing or painting or doing a craft so we didn't see the point of having pretty placemats that would always be off the table. We do keep a cookie jar on there and I make doilies to go underneath.

A kitchen table…
What’s that? 😉
My current kitchen is the smallest I’ve ever had and sitting in it would be a luxury.
There is a d/r table but it’s really the “Mommy memorial” piece that I can’t seem to get rid of. Kind of funny since she rarely cooked but guess just wanted the accoutrements 🤷🏽‍♀️

I eat at a butler’s table in the living space that currently has a table runner instead of placemats. All my tableware is washable.

I keep placemats on the dining room table, and they get used around holidays. That’s pretty much the only time the dining room table gets used. I do not use a tablecloth on it, so I want something to protect it. None on the kitchen table, as it has a durable surface that is easy to wipe clean.

I keep a tablecloth on both the kitchen and dining room tables. I never use a placemat on the kitchen table. I will put down placemats on the dining room table for certain meals, mostly of the "carry out" variety. But I don't use them very often.
