If you come to my house, you get candy. I do not care how old you are, if you are wearing a costume, if you say the words "Trick or Treat".

I read a story that was talking about parents who carry a sign to let people know that their child is non-verbal. I have to think this was due to people not giving them candy if they did not say trick or treat. Broke my heart.

It's so easy to avoid Halloween if you want - leave your light off and if someone does knock don't answer the door.

Our Trick or Treat was from 6-8 pm so just ended 20 minutes ago. Most people stick to the set hours so unlikely to get more people at this point. DH and I are back inside—we were in the driveway socializing with the neighbors, but it’s cold. We had a total of 48. I’d say less than 10 were under 10 years old. Many, many were high schoolers, but all in costume. All polite. Fun night.

I live in Utah so we are having 2 nights of Trick or Treaters (members of the dominate religion will not celebrate on Sunday). But no matter the day or age, if I have candy and you come to my door I’ll give it to you.

Interesting you bring it up. There is a town in our province that was founded by and still to this day almost exclusively populated by Mormons. I was very surprised to hear on the news this past week that they had just passed a municipal by-law requiring all Halloween activities including trick-or-treating to be moved to the Saturday prior, if the actual date falls on a Sunday. I've never heard of it before and I wonder why they waited until this year to make the move. :confused3

As long as the teens are not stealing people’s candy, it’s fine. Some folks left out bowls of candy this year and had their bowls and candy stolen from the older teens. Not cool.

That reminds me. When I was 5 or 6, Halloween fell on a Sunday and trick or treating was moved to Saturday. Sunday Blue laws were still in effect and it would have been “improper” to permit such an ungodly activity. This was in a heavily Catholic neighborhood in Philadelphia.

The next time Halloween was on a Sunday in the early 70s the social prohibition was generally ignored and we started soon after we got home from church.
