Ahhhh…..the great debate about changing the clocks - is it good or is it bad? Some people love it and some people hate it? I’m not doing a poll about this debate, but I am doing a poll on just daylight saving time, which is normally the favorite of the two time changes. What I’m curious about, is your opinion of DST and how much it affects you personally. My DH is someone that prefers returning to standard time in the fall and likes it when it gets dark out earlier. I know a few other people that prefer it too. Before we find out your opinion of DST, let’s jump ahead to some information……

I was surprised to read about it being used to conserve energy during war time - I was always told DST was to help the farmers. So let’s find out now of DST is something you like or not. So, let’s spring into your answer today……

What is your opinion of daylight saving time?
Does losing an hour sleep have any negative effects on you?
(multiple choice)

For Me……This is a tough question for me, because I do like having more light, but I sleep worse during daylight saving time. So, I’m going to say I like it, definitely not love it, and that losing one hour sleep doesn’t negatively effect me. My sleep issue happens during the entire time of DST, not just a few days after it happens - I’m certain that it’s because when it’s light out longer, I’m busier doing things and have less down time, so my mind doesn’t settle down, which makes me sleep poorly - it’s annoying 😣. This is our first time in 3 years that we’ve been home for the time change - we’ve been in Florida and then we lost 2 hours of sleep :faint:. It didn’t bother me much, but it sure bothered my DH.

It didn't bother me much at all this weekend but the Grandkids were here and they're on a different time table than Grandma period! (Staying up later and sleeping in a bit)

I really don't know which one I would want to keep all the time probably DST as we do live with that time for 8 months a year.

Having to manually change the clocks around the house 2x a year is just annoying. Honestly, during the Summer there are more daylight hours while in the Winter there are less. Moving the time around doesn't change that. When it is dark, you have to turn on more lights regardless of whatever time the clocks happen to show.

Love it !!! I have sleep issues so I really doesn’t matter I can’t sleep in the spring I can’t sleep in the fall so that one hour makes no difference to me at all but I absolutely love the sunlight and I get really depressed when I lose it so I’m happy to have it back!!!

I like springing the time ahead so we have daylight later in the summer, but don’t like falling the time back again. I wish they would leave the time as it is now. And it doesn’t bother my sleep either way, even when I worked outside the home.

We change time a little later than the States (the end of the month) but I like it as I like the evenings being lighter. Does frustrate me that the mornings go darker for a short while but that soon changes. And losing an hour never seems to matter too much to me.

I hate the changing back and forth because I am very slow at adjusting - I lose more than that one hour. But of the two options, I tend to feel more in sync on DST than on EST.

 This. And needing to remember how to do it in my car really chips me off. Otherwise, I don’t care much. This spring change is a little easier than the fall one. The first morning is a little rough but I’m already back into routine. It can take a week or so to be able to go to sleep an hour earlier though.

As far as my car is concerned it's finally on the correct time. ;) :teeth:

I absolutely hate it BUT as I get older, I have founds ways to make it an easier transition.

I get up nearly every morning to go walking. Most days, that's around 5:30am but it's an hour earlier on days when I have to go into the office. I keep telling myself that every day is just going to feel like those in-office days for a while...including putting in 6+ miles in on the trails in complete darkness. Instead of easing into it yesterday, I signed up for a 5k. We had a 7:30am start and it was about a 45 minute drive to the race area, so it meant getting up around 5:30am and out the door by 6am. So, pretty spot on to the timing of my normal weekdays. I also shunned the nap my body wanted to take yesterday and got into bed a little on the early side to help push the transition. I woke several times in the night but I wasn't hating life when the alarm went off to go walking this morning. I'm still tired and the complete darkness is no fun, but it is what it is.

I just wish they wouldn’t change time at all. I do love the extra hour of sleep in the fall, but I hate how dark it gets in the evening. So of the two, I prefer DST.

My vote: it's OK. I love the daylight, give me sunshine and warm temps! BUT, I abhore the insanity of going back and forth with our clocks. I know I would like the extra daylight come fall but I would miss the longer daylight come summer. I live in SE WI.

I really hate that it's dark in the mornings again. I walk every morning, but with my vision challenges I don't like walking in the dark; too many tripping hazards. I was finally adjusted to walking outside (instead of treadmill/indoor track) and now, it's dark again. I don't care if it's lighter later in the day. We work until at least 6pm anyhow, so I can wait for DST to start a little later in the year. Maybe that's my problem... I need it to start in late April, not early March!
