How many jobs, since you’ve been working, have you quit or resigned from?

For Me…..Two
*I left my custom picture framing job, for 20 years, to open my own custom picture frame store.
*While working at the above job, I also worked at a second job for awhile, and I ended up leaving that second job due to a new opportunity at the frame shop that required more of my time.
*I am now managing a Chiropractic office (I’ve been there 10 years) and I have no desire to leave that job - I will stay there until the doctor retires, which will be in approximately 10 years.

what I consider "real" jobs....just one.
School district
Other than that I either did little things while going to school or had my own business

At least 6 - only one did I demand to be let go as they were doing nonstop layoff - I would receive a years severance so I was not about to leave on my own ! I got let go eventually and got that severance !! 👍

I only left jobs when I had another to replace it and usually stayed somewhere for years and years. My last job I literally closed the place down for the last time. There was only one time in my life I gave two weeks without another job on deck. It just became intolerable.

One, when I moved from the Florida Gulf Coast to Central Florida. I have, however, had two jobs that went out of business causing me to be out of work, one I worked at for about three years due to bad management, and my last job after 25 years due to Covid. If the last one hadn’t closed, I would probably still be there.

I only left one job in which I wrote a Resignation Letter. I was a college loan collector. I didn't care for the "politics" within the business office. I had just started subbing now and then on my days off so decided from then on I would "just sub" while raising our sons. I retired 34 years later. :)

I held lots of odd jobs thru college and a few years beyond which I just quit with a 2-week notice. Housekeeping, being a baker, working at King Soopers (in Colorado), tutoring and a few others.

I chose 3 but actually my department went away while I was out on maternity leave. I was going to resign anyway but they gave me an option of severance or they would try and find another job within the company. I took the severance.

I count 6 including my current job. Money does talk.

Three after college.

I had a job in high school that I would then go back to during the summers and Christmas/Spring break while I was in college. That was always kind of open ended—I’d just let them know if I wanted to be put on the schedule. I guess I never officially quit that job, just didn’t ask to be put on the schedule at some point.

It is so much more fun to give your notice than to be laid off.

I have given notice twice. Once was exciting but sad, I liked the job but had a much better opportunity. The other was exhilarating. I despised the job and it felt so good to say goodbye.

I have only left a job when a better one came along. I have been laid off numerous times. That is the life of a Federal contractor.
::yes:: Different industry, but this has been my career trajectory, exactly. I said 5, but I honestly can’t remember. It’s been a long, long 37 years. FWIW, I’ve been in my current position for 16 years now and plan to retire from it, when the time comes. I’ve got no drive left for further advancement and at this level, the odds that the position will ever be eliminated are very slim.

Similar to me also. I am in what I think will be my last full-time position. No desire to advance at this point. I am in the lead position anyway so no place to go.

I had to quit some because of moving and/or school ending. I remember one retail job I left because I had enough of the manager and found something much better.

In my tally I recall four times I gave notice to career positions, to return to school, accept a better job, or a preferable location. Three of them were early on in my career, and after working only 1 to 2 years at each, and the other was after being there for 13 years.

I’ve been with the same employer for 36 years this month and have never resigned a job. Although, I’ve changed jobs and our company has been sold 3 times, I’m still hanging on. I don’t intend to resign, but might retire early after we get done paying the last of our children’s college tuition. That’s a 3-4 years down the road.
