Are you a superstitious person?
If yes….which superstitions do you believe in?
(multiple choice)

*There’s many superstitious beliefs, but I only have a limited amount of poll choices. Please post your superstitious belief if it’s not listed.

For Me…..I am not superstitious at all :sad2: but I do say & play along with certain superstitions all the time like…..
*saying…..fingers crossed everything goes well 🤞🏻
*saying, while knocking on wood, things like…..knock on wood I’ve never had the flu.
*Saving wishbones for DH & DD19 to pull for fun
*Make a fun wish when blowing out birthday candles
*If a couple bad things happen I’ll say…what next? Bad Things come in threes.
*I’ll giggle when I walk under a ladder.
I didn’t select any of these in the poll since I don’t believe in them, I just goof off and play along with them.

You put that all VERY well! Sign me up for exactly what you said. :grouphug: I’ll also chip in with “...it must be a full moon”.

Yeah, like you I am not at all superstitious, but might use the tropes in casual conversation, etc. It's not that I really believe them though.

Quite superstitious. Checked almost all of those, also always throw salt over my shoulders if I spill any. I always think about the superstition of a black cat crossing your path, but we’ve had several sweet and precious black kitties as pets so I don’t follow that one. I know I have more , will have to think about them

I am slightly. I definitely knock on wood to avoid the thing I’m talking about. I won’t walk under a ladder or open an umbrella in the house. I think it’s really more out of habit than any strong beliefs.

Not superstitious but I'll play along. I'd like to point out that Sandy has outdone herself with this one:rotfl2:

I say/do things but not because I really believe but more like why press my luck.

I forgot about it being Friday the 13th. I meant to put together a bad luck playlist for work today.

Another person like @slo. I can’t even recall what we were discussing at the table last night, but youngest DD was talking about something that luckily hadn’t happened and both she and her dad knocked on wood. And then she insisted that I knock on wood. I don’t believe any of that and I don’t think they do either, but habit and why chance it?

13 has always been my lucky number. My mom was born on a Friday the 13th and if not for her, I wouldn’t be here. I usually have a very nice Friday the 13th.

I open umbrellas in the house all the time, as they get so saturated with rain in Florida that they don’t dry if you keep them closed. Who wants a moldy umbrella? We have a tiled foyer, and the umbrella is opened and left there until it is dry.

Probably the most superstitious I get is eating good luck foods for New Year’s Day. I don’t know that they help, but not willing to take the chance. I also like four leaf clovers.

I'm not superstitious BUT our power kept flickering on and off this morning, the power is reportedly out at work, and as we pulled out of the driveway to go to the grocery store, we discovered we have a flat tire, so maybe there IS something to this Friday the 13th stuff!

Not superstitious per se, but do knock on wood when talking to people if we're hoping for something -- more symbolic than anything.

Now, I do try to say, "Rabbit, rabbit" as the first thing I say when I wake up the first day of the month. Our freshman year English teacher taught us that it would give us good luck through the month. I still do it nearly every month for some odd reason.

Not superstitious, but many people and myself will jokingly knock on wood about things. Except for those whose limbs were removed by Jason Voorhees, but I just knock for them.

I guess thinking about it, I am superstitious. I knock on wood and all of that. I'll open an umbrella in the house, the bad luck comes if you put it over your head, see? Superstitions...I used to wear my grandmother's mother's ring with all of her children's birthstones in it. It was left to me by her and I never took it off. My Mom had had cancer, and was not feeling well and going for surgery. The night before, her birthstone fell out of the ring and was lost. I noticed it, and immediately knew that this meant her cancer had returned, and it had. So there was that.

I will not take a pin from someone's hand, I make them stick it in my shirt and then retrieve it from there, or you might get bad news. Silly, silly.

Superstitions are for the weak minded.

I am incredulous reading that people actually do things like knock on wood and won't open umbrellas in a house! New shoes on a table? Never heard that one. Hilarious!

Not really. But, I do knock on wood sometimes.
And I agree with the other healthcare/emergency service folks on here.... we NEVER say it's been a quiet or slow shift; because, it WILL blow up in your face.

I'm not sure it's a superstition.... but, as a former day care provider and current RN, I'm a firm believer that the full moon affects people in a negative way (increased behaviors, increased accidents, etc).

Not seriously superstitious but there are some silly routines I follow. When we start a RV trip there is a certain song we play every time, most of the time. If we forget it we don't think something bad is going to happen though. I'm not allowed to watch Georgia Football because my family thinks I'm bad luck, which is fine with me since it gets way too tense in our house when they are playing. We were in our RV when they played Ohio State and it's not a large RV. I was in the bedroom but could hear the game, which my family believes is why they didn't do as well as they should have. I do also carry a tigers eye stone in the bottom of my purse if I'm carrying a purse. My grand daddy gave it to when I was a little girl and told me to always carry it with me, so I do.
