Maggianos is definitely a whole lot more expensive that Olive Garden... I cant even imagine them across the street from each other!

Maggianos was in the front of a HUGE shopping center right across from Olive Garden. Lots and lots of restaurants in about 3 block section of that road. Well, clearly Maggianos couldn;'t compete. Looking at current prices Maggianos is actual about 50 cents cheaper on most items.

Our Maggiano's is also about the same price or slightly cheaper too. Only thing that brings it up is salad not included with the entree.

I like it ok. Used to go there a lot my senior year of high school. Seniors had open campus for lunch, so a group of us would go for salad and breadsticks. My cousin insists that it's the finest of fine dining (she's from a very rural area and doesn't get out much), and one of my best friends is addicted to it. But I rarely go these days. Too many other places I like better.

We have lots of independent Italian places around, but my kids are often don't want to try new places (which is crazy because how bad could spaghetti really be?!?!)

Tell them to do what I do and look up reviews on Yelp or Trip Advisor. When we travel the country, we like to try local independent places, but I am always afraid of ending up someplace gross. So we check the reviews, and have found the absolute BEST little hole in the wall places that way.

It's OK.
They were new (at least to our area) when I was younger. My dad was...uh, not an adventurous eater. He did not like eating out much at all, so it was a real treat when we got to do it. Olive Garden was one of the places he was willing to go, so it became a staple of "celebrations" at our house. So, I have good memories of it, and I don't think the food is horrible. But, yes, there are a lot of places that are more unique, more authentic.
