I prefer soft flour but have no problem eating hard corn taco shells.

It depends on the type of taco. Crunchy for standard tacos with ground beef and the fixins, but soft tacos for Mexican street tacos. Those are filled with grilled meat, cilantro and onions.

In MY world:
Hard shell yellow corn, all the way. Folded kind for tacos, flat for tostadas.
Soft shell yellow corn tortillas are for enchiladas.
Soft shell flour tortillas are for burritos and fajitas, or fried for chimichangas.

American taco. Old El Paso hard corn taco shell with the seasoning packet with ground beef. Ortega taco sauce only.

I don't think there is such a thing as a hard shell Mexican taco according to both my boss and my daughter's boyfriend from Mexico and Guatemala respectfully.
