My daughter just got a part time job with Darden restaurants.

She has to get polishable slip-resistant shoes. She has some from her previous waitress job but they are crocs, and not polishable. Does anybody know where to get these reasonably? She also has wide feet and is a broke college student. :goodvibes

Thanks!

Sears: http://www.sears.com/search=womens slip resistant polishable shoes?seaxwom=1

these are what Zappos has, but they are more expensive: http://www.zappos.com/slip-resistant-polishable-shoes

I would wear my black New Balance walking shoes. Clean and comfortable tie shoes should be all that Darden restaurants is able to dictate to employees.

My son bought slip/oil resistant shoes at Payless of all places, for his job at Dairy Queen.

We get ours at shoes for crews dot com. They have a wide range of service industry shoes, in a variety of price ranges. Incidentally, I did get a pair for myself at payless as well. Depends on what style you're looking for.

Back when my kids had jobs that they needed them, we always found them at wal-mart.

I use to manage at a Darden Restaurant and it was leather slip resistant shoes bc leather can be polished. No white or any other color on them.

Walmart also has a line of black slip resistant work shoes for men and women in a black and yellow box. Don't recall the brand name but there are a few different style. Seems like they were $19-$29 or so.

I'm just curious which Darden restaurant?? I work for Olive Garden and our slip resistant shoes do not have to be polishable. We also can not wear crocs either though. I'm a trainer as well so I know these standards and have never heard the polishable rule. Unless she is working for Capitol Grille or Seasons 52 which are 2 upscale Darden restaurants, then I could understand the polishable rule.

This. My daughter has a part-time job lined up for this summer before she leaves for college. She had to buy a pair of these for her job. They are called restaurant shoes and they come in solid black. They cost $25.

Of course they can dictate a uniform to their employees. It is not unreasonable that they would want their employees to all dress the same all the way down to how their shoes look. New Balance shoes are too casual compared to dressier shoes that be polished.

Darden Restaurants as a whole (Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Bahama Breeze, Longhorn Steakhouse, Seasons 52 and Capitol Grille) are very focused on appearance standards. Guests perception: how employees look is a direct connection on how the whole restaurant experience will be. Depending on what position the OP's daughter will be working in, whatever restaurant it is she got hired at, she will need new shoes in 3-4 months anyway, before she would even think of polishing them. The soles on slip resistant shoes wear very fast w/ the amount of walking that goes on in a restaurant.

It's Olive Garden in Savannah, GA.

Thanks everyone for the replies; I have passed the info on to my daughter! :thanks:

I have a pair of crocs work shoes that are polishable. they are leather uppers and crocs soles - I got them to wear with jeans. I have 2 pairs (so I have another pair after these wear out), and they were $30 for both pairs.

The style name of mine is lavender. they have been discountinued, but she may be able to score a pair cheap on e-bay or something. I have them in black, but they also come in white, for nurses, I'm guessing.

Good luck. What a yummy place to work! :-)

Thanks for the info! We definitely favor crocs in our family.

She was so exited after going through orientation yesterday. They sound like a really great company to work for. They have a nice benefits package that is offered to all employees - she won't need the health/dental insurance but was very interested in some of the discounts with banks, other Darden restaurants, even WDW if she understood correctly. :thumbsup2

Bought these for a job site that I frequent and work out well. I did find after awhile I was best supported with Black Sketchers from Sears on sale , $39. from $49. THey held up really well, and I used a Pledge cloth to polish.

Also, spring for an insert of gel to help absorb the pressure of standing, walking, strutting about.

I've also owned these shoes when I worked at a restaurant. They lasted FOREVER, but did need a good comfortable insole (like a Dr Scholls gel type one), and I did need to replace it frequently.

SAS makes a leather slip resistant shoe. I know all their shoes are expensive, but she will also be standing on her feet all day, carrying heavy plates of food. She should not skimp on work shoes.

When I first started with Disney, I bought a pair at Payless to get me started, within a month I had huge problems with standing. By the end of the day, my feet were so numb with pain, and I could barely stand up in the morning. I spent at least $50 on a pair of New Balance, and never changed.

When I worked at Qdoba, my aunt gave me a pair of her old work shoes which were SAS. She had to get custom shoes, so the SAS were barely worn. I did get a pair of wal-mart shoes in the beginning, but I only worked a few hours a day and they got me by. SAS are all leather shoes.

Walmart is fine until she gets her first paycheck, but never sacrifice a quality pair of shoes.
I want to say Disney uses the shoesforcrews for any one that works there. Recently, they enforced it that every one in the food service must use those shoes, no other brand is acceptable.

I can't wear the Walmart version of slip resistent shoes. But I can where the Playless version just fine. There is not to many places that sell those kinds of shoes.
