Slinky Dog Dash Worth It?

Is Slinky Dog Dash really that good of a ride? Our kids are 17 and 13....is SDD for everyone or younger kids?

Reason I'm asking is figuring out LL plan for our Hollywood Studios day. I see that the LL sells out quick. Moreover, it gives times in the evening so for sure you have to wait 2 hours after park opening to book your next. My kids will really want to ride Millennium Falcon....so worth it to grab SDD and then chance it that LL will be available for MF?

I personally think its one of the more overrated ride at the parks. It is not a terrible ride, but I do feel it is more geared for families with smaller kids. If your kids love Rock N Roller Coaster, Tower of Terror, Everest, or the roller coasters at Universal, then they will find Slinky to be a bit boring in comparison. Its worth a ride if its at the end of the day and the wait is short, but personally I would use my first LL on another attraction.

Yeah, without ever riding it, it seems like it's a cute themed coaster but just goes up and down a few hills.
We've only been to WDW and DL once before. They enjoy Big Thunder, DS loved Guardian Tower ride at DL but they haven't been on the others mentioned in your post (they will probably this time though).

So seems like we should skip it and just book MF and then the others as they fit (Star Tours, Rock n Roller Coaster, Toy Story, Minnie (that's for me!)...and will purchase ROTR. We also have a lunch ADR to need to pay attention to the times of the LLs.

I agree that it's overrated. To the point that I won't do it without a LL. It's just not worth a longer wait.

I have ridden - my kids have not. The 8 year old would be the only one tall enough. She would be a little "scared." I thought it was more than a family coaster. Definitely more than Barnstormer.

I do think it's overrated, but I also would never wait more than 30 mins for ANYTHING. I am not a patient person, especially with kids tagging along in line. 🤪

I like it. I would categorize it in the same category as SDMT. I prefer SDD over SDMT though. I much prefer RRC, but Slinky Dog is better than I thought it was going to be before I had ever ridden it.

This is exactly how I feel. Surprised how much we like it. While I would prioritize other things in the park ahead of it (mainly rnrc and tot) it’s still kinda a must ride. We don’t have little kids, but it’s a fun ride. I wouldn’t wait hours for it, but we do try to get in line early in the morning or get a LL. We also like it more than sdmt which we do end up riding too (usually close to park close), but wouldn’t mind missing.

Pretty much exactly how I view it as well, on all counts you noted.

I'm not a roller coaster/ thrill ride person but I've ridden with my 6 year old DGD. It's cute. Not sure cute enough for teens.

Thanks...this is what I'm thinking....that it's not worth it enough for our kids age group (teens) to waster a LL on when there are about 7 other attractions that we would pick for LL (not as a first ride, but each LL pushes the next one out - or will be gone)

It's like a nicer, longer Barnstormer - a mild, open-air coaster. It's fun, but I don't think my teens would miss it if we didn't do it. I prefer 7DMT because it's more themed. Teens prefer the real coasters (like at Uni).

Everything's relative, right? Our teens love it. They also love the most extreme coasters on the planet, lol. They like variety and they love Disney-themed attractions naturally. So I think like anything else you have to know yourself and your kids (or whoever may be riding). All I'm saying is that I like all kinds of rides, at all kinds of levels. SDD was better than I expected as an easy riding coaster. Love the stop in the middle and so on. But, like any ride or anything else for that matter, you probably have a pretty good idea if you think someone's going to like something or not, for whatever reasons. So too cute for teens? Really depends on the teens.

As with restaurants, every ride is subjective. DW and I like to try most rides before we pass judgment. SDD was a one and done for use only because the hilly ups and downs were unpleasant to our mid-60's stomachs. Everything else on the ride was great. For comparison, we love SDMT, ToT, RnRC and BTMT. SM is now too rough for our bodies.

Thanks for the replies. Before we go, will sit down with my kids so that we have a plan of attack when we are there and booking LL. This is good feedback with a variety of comments. I monitor Genie+ and notice that SDD always gives late afternoon....even when booking opens at 7am. So it's just a matter if its worth using a LL and then not being able to book next one until 10:30am or so.

Its impossible to say whether any ride is "worth it" for someone else because that's a subjective, persoanl decision. Only you can answer that for yourself. But you can gather information to help you make a decision and, as said well by others, it is a fun themed family coaster. Its not a thrill ride like some other coasters and rides in the park. If that description makes it seem worth it to you, then go for it!

It's a must do for me, but only at night, it's a completely different ride in the dark.

That being said, I wouldn't wait in an hour long line to ride it, it's got to be reasonable.

I rode Slinky for the first time ever on my May trip and I thought it was meh. Not amazing but not the worst coaster I've ever been on. I do think I was biased since the day before I rode Hagrid's and Velocicoaster for the first time and LOVED them. It also didn't help that the Wheezy animatronic at the end was not working and was stuck in a pose that made him look like he had a little too much to drink lol

I don't think it's a bad ride. It's a good family coaster on the same level as Mine Train. For me, it's not something I will prioritize a Genie+ LL for and I absolutely would not wait 90+ minutes in a queue with barely any shade for it.

Thanks. This is what "I'm" thinking too....but will figure out a a plan and let my kids decide which LL they want to grab first.

We were able to G+ when we were there in May. It was a little more intense than I anticipated. Maybe comparable to Big Thunder IMHO. I wouldnt wait in line for 75 minutes (for anything), but if you can get a G+ for it, its worth it. The G+ will "sell out" for it pretty quickly, so make that the first thing you book.
