Sling Strap thoughts

I was thinking of getting a sling strap but not sure how safe is it to have the weight of a camera hanging from the tripod mount. Anyone use one or have any thoughts? thanks

Thoughts....
  • what type of lenses do you down? Primes should be OK... but zoom lenses may not like the motion. Heavy lenses can bend the flange.
  • is the camera more likely to be bumped when walking crowds? At least a camera bag will have padding.

I have a Black Rapid Sport and no issues with a Canon 7DMII with a 100-400 lens.

Black Rapid sport with a 6D and either a 24-70 f2.8 II or 16-35 f2.8 II.

I've got it with the manfrotto adapter and have had 0 problems with it falling off (I just never unscrew it once it's on). I did get the plastic adapters which "lock" the clasp in place though.

Generally I let it swing free on its own with no issues but if I'm going into dense crowd areas or around shelving in stores I'll hold onto the camera or lens to prevent bumping.

My only problem is I've lost 3 eyecups now!

Biggest lens right now is Tamron 18-270 so not to big and bulky. Just worried the tripod screw mount part would slide out of camera.

I don't have a problem with that but understand the sentiment. The tether really took that fear away for me.

A bit off topic, but I got tired of my camera 'flopping' around on my neck and didn't want to invest in a harness type system. Currently I use a hand/wrist strap with a tripod screw mount with medium weight lenses; doesn't bother me in the slightest. It's not the perfect solution by far but fits my needs at the moment. I'm still looking for that perfect, lightweight harness system to use when hiking or at Disney.

been using black rapid strap for 4+ years now on 3 different bodies. no issues at all. so much better then a neck strap.

I realize this is an old thread but which model black rapid strap would you recommend?
I've had mine so long there were only a couple models available when I bought it. There was the original and a women's model meant to fit a woman's contours better? I just have the original and it works great for me (especially after adding the tether).
