So I had a hot sling and it hurt my neck months ago, so I don't think that will be an option. Is there another sling that would work for a hip carry for a 25lb 19 month old that anyone can recommend?

Not a sling, but I highly recommend an Ergo. It is for front or back carries and super comfortable. I can wear my 23lb 21month old all day with no soreness. We used it in Disney last time and will again in November

I think the slings are uncomfortable once they hit the toddler stage. I had a mei tei carrier from www.babyhawk.com that I really liked. You get to pick your own fabrics and everything. They're really pretty. You can wear them on the front and back. If you google baby wearing I think you will find a website that has information on the different kinds of carriers.

Second the mei tei. Although, I'm not sure I would want to carry DD exclusively in that for a week or even an entire day. After a few hours, she starts getting heavy...

I have a stroller and planned to use it. Just thinking for lines, etc. for when she doesn't want to walk (or stroll)

also, are you making sure that you are spreading the the pouch over your shoulder? It shouldn't be near your neck ;-)

But, I agree with the other posters that a carrier that distributes the weight over both shoulders would be preferable for longer carries.

Ditto to the Ergo recommendations. I'm not a mei tai fan (have a few but don't find them as comfy), but I do like my wraps as well (you can make one SO easily! No sewing required).

How do you make a wrap without sewing... precisely what fabric do you use? I have a moby wrap that I love, but now that the baby is 25 pounds he stretches the fabric. I find the wrap much more comfortable than the ergo we have.
Thanks

For a wrap, you just cut down the middle ("hot dog style" LOL) of an average of 4-5 yards of fabric. I prefer a stretchy gauze/cotton blend, because I like wrapping newborns but other slings for older babies. But really, you can use whatever fabric you like. I always find great ones on clearance, which means TWO wraps for $3-5!!!

I never used items like this, but I want to give a thumbs up for the WDW strollers:thumbsup2 My DD has sat in these since she was 13 months old, and she never complained. I just wanted to let you know this, incase you got hot or tired (physically tired, not annoying tired) of carrying your child.

For DD's first trip to WDW when she was 7 months, she was in the sling much more than the stroller, but on the next trips when she was 18 months and then 2½, I brought the sling (OTSBH) for when we were standing in line and it made things much easier.

I loved my sling so much, I only wish I had discovered slings when my boys were babies!

I tried on my shoulder and then I couldn't move my arm..maybe I had the wrong size. It was fine for a little while but then I would have to move it off my shoulder a bit and it would ride over to my neck.

I had the same problem with pain when using a sling.. and the way I had it on was identical to the picture of how to wear!! I also tried out an Ergo and while it seemed comfy for the baby I found it to be wayyy to bulky and heavy for a trip to Dis in the summer! I had a friend give me a Hip Hammock and I just feel in love.. it is super easy to use ( you clip one part around your waist, put the baby on your hip, then pull it up over baby and around your neck!) best part is she seems to enjoy it as well and has room to move! hth!

What is the weight limit on the Hip Hammock? That's a Playtex product right?
