Hi
I am in the process of starting up a 4h group in our little section of town, 5 villages make up this 1 town, So far I will have kids from 2 of those villages.
So since we are starting in the "winter" and all of these kids are brand new to 4h many did cub scouts and the way 4h works with everyone working on different things is foriegn to them I'm trying to find ways and projects to ease them into "their own" thing.
I have another meeting coming up with our cordinator but am looking for ideas from people have been there and done that. Ages go from 1st-5th grade and possible 1 k whose actually 6.
Thanks for the help in advance.

PN96 should be by shortly.
She works with 4H and has for like, forever.

She'll have some great ideas for you.

thank you I thought it was here I'd seen someone with 4h stuff going on.
 :yay:

HI! I help with my DD & DS's 4-H club and I help w/ DD's 4-H Jr. Leader club.. just the scrapbooking side w/ the kids but I am at every meeting and help outside of everything...

What exactly do you have in mind. Our meetings run from Mar- July (the week before the fair) than we have an awards party in October.
Our kids range from 3rd grade to 19 yo for regular 4-H. Grades 1 & 2 are in what we call Mini-4H. Needless to say, I have one starting mini-4-H this year so tack on another group I will be helping out! (I know, I know.. I need to learn the word NO..but it's for my kids so I don't say no!)...
We really don't do much besides conduct meetings and have fun w/ the kids with games and snacks (we are changing this format this year.. actually having a meeting tonight about this)...the kids will have to buy books (at least they do here) that give them their project requirements and it is up to them to fullfil and complete their requirements and projects for our 4H leader to sign before they are allowed to exhibit at the Fair...
Please feel free to shoot me a pm and I'll be happy to answer any questions you have and if I don't have the answer, I will get them from our 4-H leader...

My DD is doing 9 projects this year and have 2 of them 1/2 way completed already. I'm sure there will be tweaking at the end..but we are going on vacation so they have to be done before we leave.

Also, a great idea is to find out what the kids are interested in exhibiting and make contact w/ someone who can talk to them about the projects. We are currently lining up speakers for our group now too..

I am a 4-H leader also. The current club that I am in conducts the meeting and then does something after. One month may be a holiday themed project (check out FamilyFun.com for easy ideas or Oriental Trading for low cost crafts). The meeting after the Fair everyone can show one item that they brought and talk about it. Other meetings a member will talk about an award they one or an opportunity that is available in the county program. If you have questions, feel free to PM me.

Also, before the general meeting we have the cloverbud meeting. It is only a 1/2 hour long and we do either a craft or project, or talk about things relating to something they can bring to the fair.
