Our son goes to LSU and they have been closed the last three days because of the hurricane. We have a fall trip to BLT scheduled and our son was going to join us for about five nights while he had a three day fall break. He found out today that fall break is cancelled to make up for the three days they were closed this week. He's been dying to stay at BLT, too.

We'll just have to enjoy this trip without him, I guess. First one without him, too, since he was four.

Awww Deb, I'm sorry! I know you were looking forward to that trip with him.

I'm sorry!

We were off school today and will be tomorrow due to Isaac. If we have to make them up, I am hoping they will use teacher inservice days to do it.

Those first trips "without the kids" are strange, but you will grow to love them in the future. Dick and I really relish our trips by ourselves now. Of course, we are still always hoping the "kids" will come with sometimes. Unfortunately, at 43 and 37, they are usually too busy, so Mom and Dad just go by ourselves and enjoy! I do have both of them talked into Christmas at AKV next year. Our son has never stayed there, and he's looking forward to it.

Sorry for that but glad he's safe.

What Diane said and glad he is safe. It will be just the beginning of trips without him, school conflicts, work etc.

I am going to miss our family trips. My twins are in college this year. And we had hoped to take a family trip next May, but some things have come up and we won't be able to go until the next year (going to bank our points). I am really hoping they will join us, but I know a lot can happen between now and then.

I know DH and I will have to get used to going on trips alone...and we were married 11 years before we had kids, so we did enjoy trips together for many years. But it is just sad to know that our 'family' trips are coming to an end. So I understand your sadness. I am sad we had to cancel our plans for next year.

I keep telling myself one day I will be taking grandchildren to WDW...but hopefully not for a very LONG time.

Sorry, I know how sad that makes you feel. The first time our 23 year old told us he wasn't coming, my dd kept saying "K loves this" or "can we buy K this?" of "K should be here" I found myself saying all the same things to my Dh. Now we've gotten used to him not going, although he's welcome if he wants to come.

Wow, I'm glad he's safe. I'm guessing you will enjoy your trip, but you will miss him quite a bit. :)

I'm so sorry to hear that. I know how precious time with my son is. I hardly get to see him anymore. Text him when you are enjoying your favorites and it will seem like he is there with you. Not the same, but better than nothing. :goodvibes

i am really sorry to hear. but what a blessing he is safe! my oldest ds is a freshman in california & i've been sending him care packages. i thought about when he wouldn't be able to go with us, and as an idea would create a disney care pack for him. pack & ship usps flat rate works well, and throw in one of those special notes or a picture. :lovestruc our children grow too quickly!!

 Aw! My son, an only child, 16 in October, I know my time is coming too! They grow up so fast!

Enjoy none the less, as bitterweet as it is!

P.S. He can have his graduation celebration at BLT, never too early to start planning!

Hey guys as someone who has "been there, done that" I know what you are going through. First and foremost very glad the storm has passed and he is safe.
We are getting to take our son and his fiance' with us to Disneyland in 10 days and it will be really great to be with them. We enjoy our kid free trips very much, but after taking our kids for over 20 years we look forward to having them join us when they can. You have that to look forward to as well and those trips become truly special. We call it the evolution of DVC. We use our points, our kids use our points and sometimes we still get to use our points together. Enjoy your trip!

While we do enjoy our empty nest trips a lot and sometimes the family trips are like herding cats (3 adult kids, one spouse, one granddaughter) I cherish the family time. The offspring are never in the same place at the same time often enough.

Best luck to your son at LSU.

That was our last trip to WDW. Celebrating graduation in 2011 with eight of his friends in a GV at OKW. So to go from 11 in the villa to two will be a change. A nice change, but we will miss him. And we will stop at LSU on our way down and on our way back home to see what he needs and to drop off any good stuff.

Plus he is going with us in January to run the Disney Half Marathon with his dad.

We have mostly gone on our own. Our disney addiction started late for us. During one trip we flew in DD for a weekend. What a blast it was. Now we are going to WDW in October to visit her. :cool1:She is in the Collage program. She will be working at BLT marina and arcade.
