Slight change of plans

We leave for our trip Saturday and the family’s ready!
Last night though, after talking it over we decided $35 a person to eat with Goofy was too much and we cancelled our dinner for Saturday evening. So-so reviews of the food also steered us away.

DW really wants to eat with characters, so we booked Ariels Grotto for lunch on Monday.

Any feedback on this princess lunch? Also, we’re staying at the Disneyland Hotel under our Disney Vacation Club points and are booked in Standard View. Any suggestions on what rooms/towers to request or avoid? Also does it help to call a couple days before or just make your requests when checking in?

Thanks in advance for any and all responses.

Peace,

Did you cancel Goofy's Kitchen? We loved it! We've been to many character meals at WDW, and thought this one was one of the best because the characters came by so often and interacted, not just to say hi. We didn't expect more than Goofy and his pals at this one, but we also got two princesses which was a pleasant surprise--Jasmine and Mulan. You may want to reconsider. I had read not so favorable things about Ariel's Grotto too. The truth is, character meals are mainly for the experience, not really for food, but the food at Goofy's was pretty good too.

I took my daughter to the Princess Lunch at Ariel's Grotto a few weeks ago on her birthday. She loved it! She met 5 princesses (Snow White, Belle, Ariel, Sleeping Beauty and Mulan). They each came to our table and chatted with her, wished her happy birthday, signed her book and posed for a picture. The food was good and the atmosphere in the restaurant is very nice. It was the highlight of her birthday.

i think cancelling goofy's kitchen was the right thing to do - we ate there in august and was disappointed in the character interaction - not alot of characters for the price (had much more interaction at the former princess bkfst) and the food was so- so

have fun at the lunch!

When we ate at Goofy's Kitchen, we thought it was fun with lots of character's and plenty of interaction with them, although we do have two small children who at the time were 5 and 1 years old, and I have heard that sometimes the characters seem to spend more time with the small kids. The food was pretty good too.

As far as the DL hotel, we stayed in the Marina tower (which is the same building that the main lobby is located) with a view of the Neverland Pool and our room was quite large and very nice with Disney touches here and there. We also reserved a room with a standard view, but we went during a slow time of year, so when we got to the hotel, we asked if we could get a room with a view of the pool or Downtown Disney, and they gave us one for no extra charge. I thought that was a pretty nice thing to do! However, on our next visit to the DL hotel we want to stay in the Sierra tower on the seventh or eighth floor overlooking Downtown Disney so we have a great view of the fireworks. :sunny:

Thanks everyone.

Our kids are 10(s) and 17(d) and we've done a couple character meals at WDW. My DW is the one who wants to eat with the characters but she agreed that $35 to eat with Goofy was too much, plus she's not too fond of buffets. Sounds like Ariel's will work out great and meet our preferences. I know the Sierra tower upper floors viewing DTD are premium, but it won't hurt to ask!

Thanks again,
Peace

If you have a Disney Visa, be sure to get your picture taken at Ariel's Grotto because they'll give you a voucher for a free one.

Thanks stampinshauna,

I did read another thread about that benefit and will be getting our picture taken.

Peace,
