DS is turning 8 soon and I told him he could have a sleepover. However, I know a couple of his friends are either not ready to spend the night OR they aren't allowed to do sleepovers yet. My idea is this. The party will start at 6:30. We are going to just have them play and hang out, do about an hour of Wii and then watch a movie. My plan is to have the movie end about 10:00 or 10:30. I thought I would write in the invitations that everyone should bring a sleeping bag and pillow and they can all bunk down to watch the movie BUT if they don't want to spend the night, then parents can come and get them at 10/10:30. I know I would be willing to do that, but wanted to get some outside opinions. DS has at least 3 friends who would be willing and allowed to stay all night.

What do you think?

That's what we did for DS7's party. I wrote on the invites something to the effect that we wanted the kids to come even if they weren't able to spend the night. We had 10 kids, 2 didn't spend the night, 8 did.

We are doing something like that for dd's party. Only our group is younger (6yr) so the pick up for non sleepovers will be around 9.

I know a lot of people that have done that, some because their kids don't like sleepovers and some just because they have something going on the next day and they didn't want their child to miss the party.

DD12 just had a sleepover with her basketball team. One of the girls has been home sick all week and out of school all week. Her parents let her go to the party but not sleep over (which leads to another thread about kids missing school and then going out in the evening....:rolleyes1 ).

Oh good. Thanks for your answers guys. I was hoping it made sense to other people too.

Have a great weekend!

That's what we did for DD's 8th b-day slumber party. One girl didn't sleep over because she wasn't ready to sleep away from home yet and another girl left early because she's really allergic to cats and we have 2. She knew we had cats and is OK for a couple of hours (with her Benedryl) so she just came over for games and cake.

:thumbsup2 Yes my dd has been to several sleepovers where there is a pick up at 10 option for the non-sleeperovers. Good luck to you!

I've done this many times, including in MS/HS when boys were invited, They did NOT have the option to stay over. ;)

We are doing this exact thing tomorrow for my DD 8 birthday party. We have one little boy who will be picked up at 10:00. Also, one girl is not ready for a sleepover and will be picked up at 10:00 also. The other 10 girls will be staying all night.:scared1:

My dd went to a PRETEND SLEEPOVER for one party. I dropped her off around 5pm. They had dinner, did a craft, got into their jammies and watched a movie while lounging on their sleeping bags. I picked her up aroun 9pm. They kids had a blast.:thumbsup2
