Hi. My daughter is having about 9 girls (8 - 9 years old) sleep over a week from tonight. It's a b'day party. Anyone have any ideas? We're having pizza, snacks, cake, make your own sundaes, I'll have a few movies, we borrowed a fog machine and a bunch of crazy lights so the girls can dance. I guess I'm looking for some game ideas. I've read about a mummy toilet paper game that I'm considering.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Silly string
Paint toenails
Make sugar scrub
Melt chocolate to dip things in
Make Jewelry
Flashlight Tag

Let them have their own fun. Girls that age shouldn't need to be structured at each moment. Leave them alone and let them have their girly time.

You are brave ;) I think having some games as a back up is a great idea, in case any bickering starts. Limbo? Karaoke? Scavenger Hunt?
Oooh how about some Mad Libs??? Those are fun for all ages :)

One Birthday party my daughter went to they had gotten inexpensive wooden frames at the arts and crafts store. They all decorated the frames while they watched a movie. The mom took a pic of the whole group together and printed it up on the computer. So each girl got nice little framed pic of the event.

Funky colored nail polish for painting fingernails and toenails. NYC and Wet 'n' Wild make $0.99 bottles of nail polish, so you could get a couple and they could have some fun with the fun colors! (Put some old towels or blankets down, if you are scared of a mess.)

Face masks. Those ugly green colored ones. It makes tweens feel really "grown up". I think Queen Helene makes a green one, Mint Julep, and it's super cheap. I've seen it at Walgreens and CVS.

Twister could be fun with the fog and crazy lights with music in the background. Always good for giggles.

Oh dear, here is a Martini for you:teleport: :drinking1 :teleport:
I did this for my DD's 9th b-day in October - ahhhhh
DD loved it

I don't agree with the let them do their own thing (I like structure) and the noise/chaos level gets out of hand for me really fast. Nor would I do nail polish unless I had several adults to help due to the spillage factor.

6 pm - girls showed up
We had sandwich breads, meats, cheeses & condiments layed out - they made their own subs, sat around and visited and talked. Then the activities began:

Couple of games

Presents and cake

Couple more games

Bed time

The next morning I made french toast and sausage, we played a couple more games and they all departed by 10 - I went back to bed!

The mummy wrap was a lot of fun and they really enjoyed it - be very strict about the level of coverage you expect, ie the feet must be covered etc. Some people give them an unlimited amount of tp I prefer to give them all a specific number of rolls and they have to make it work.

The best game was "Project Runway" (I got the idea on this board)

I bought a couple of rolls of wrapping paper, ribbon and tape. I made up 2 identical kits and split the girls into 2 groups. There were given 45 minutes to choose a model, create an outfit and present "On the Runway" (we made a runway out of a navy blue sheet and my DH lined it with twinkle lights.

When they were done, they had a RunWay show and my Best Friend, I, DH and DS were the judges. We video taped, critiqued and then awarded a prize to the winning team. We interviewed them during the process and made suggestions like "Oh, you should maybe make a handbag for that outfit" etc.

Around 10:30 p.m. I set up all their sleeping bags in the living room and provided a snack of cut fruit with peanut butter dip along with some crackers and bottled water. We then put in the movie Princess Bride and slowly they all fell asleep. I stayed up in their presence until each one was asleep. Then I headed to bed.

Next year I am going roller skating:rolleyes1

Scavenger Hunt?
The little girl 2 doors down had a Scavenger Hunt for her 9th birthday. The girls ran up and down the street knocking on doors to try to find the items on the hunt. My (then 7-year old) DD opened the door to a bunch of them. She had not been invited to her friend's birthday party. After a found a paper clip to give to them I had to go upstairs and comfort my sobbing daughter.

I think I would be slipping benadryl in their dinner:laughing:

Actually, I love the beauty parlor idea. pedicures, manicures, face mask, hair braiding. Put a couple of disposable table clothes on the floor, and let them do each others nails.

My 9 Y.O loves to have an ice cream, or milkshake bar, when she has a sleepover. I usually try to do fruit/yogurt smoothies instead--less sugar.

Have fun!

Poor thing - that is a tough one, we limited DD's guests purely out of sanity. We had to have a discussion regarding a pair of sisters. DD wanted to invite the older sister but not the younger sister who is in DD's class and social group, but DD is not fond of her. We decided it would be best to not invite either so that feelings were not hurt as badly. When the girl inquired why they were not invited DD was able to say with truth that her Mom limited how many she could invite and that with the 2 of them she would have been over her limit and since one without the other wasn't fair "Mom" made the decision to not invite either.

When I was around that age I had a Mary-Kay party for my birthday. It was sooo much fun!

My mom contacted a Mary-Kay woman that she knew and asked her if she would mind doing facials for my party. It was understood that there would be no sales pitch. I remember her teaching us how to properly wash our face (acne is coming) and apply make-up correctly. We did basic face washing, masks, and pretty make-up. Then my mom and her best friend did our hair and we did "model pictures". It was great.

Wow...this thread brought back so many fond memories of when my girls were little. They are now 29 and 19. We had great slumber parties, with lots of fun. The girls loved to dance, especially line dancing, the Macarena, ect....We ate lots of pizza, had cake and hot fudge sundaes.

My youngest dd's b day is in the fall. When she was about 11 she wanted a pool party so we rented a room at the Embassy Suites with an indoor pool. She invited 6-8 of her friends. The girls swam, then we all went to Happy Hour and had poppcorn and Shirley Temples. My dh brought pizza's in and the girls ate and headed back to the pool. The next morning they got up and swam, had the huge buffet breakfast the hotel offers and their parents picked them up. They had a blast. We did this until dd turned 14. It became a tradition and a few of the girls had the same type of party. We stopped the hotel parties after the 14th yr as that was about the time they all discovered boys. That last yr there was a baseball team staying at the hotel with boys around thier age. :scared1:

for my DD's 10th birthday in september, 2007, i let her invite 4 girls over to spend the night (1 couldn't come, so we ended up w/ 3-yeah, we started small, lol) and i got the $6.98 take & bake pizza's from the super wal-mart deli, the little individual ice cream cups and made them cupcakes instead of birthday cake. i did this b/c 1 of the girls is diabetic, so portion control was important. i bought pj bear stuffing kits from abc distributing for each girl to make and take home, they danced, played w/ their littlest pet shop animals and did makeovers on each other. i made them blueberry muffins for breakfast the next morning and they said they had a great time.

I did the same for DDs Birthday last year, age 9. I will never do that again, ever.

I did this with 10 girls at our house (ONCE!) and one thing that went over really well was getting a couple of packages of plain white t-shirts, one for each girl.

The girls designed their own graphic, usually some kind of butterfly, kitty, etc and their "autograph" underneath. We broke open the box of t-shirt paints (all little glittery bottles of bright colors) and each girl emblazoned every other girls' shirt as well as her own as a keepsake.

They dried overnight and everyone put theirs on in the morning.

We got the shirts big (adult smalls) so they could wear them as night shirts and not outgrow them too fast. It was a hit!

My DD had a slumber party for her 8th and 10th birthdays. I have to say the slumber party for her 8th birthday was c-r-a-z-y and I swore I'd never do it again. But I caved in and she had another one for her 10th birthday. That one went much easier! Maybe because the girls were older?

Two things that went over big at both parties - -

"Who Am I?"
You tape a name (like Tinker Bell, Zac Efron, etc) on the back of each girl. Then each girl has to guess who they are by asking the other girls questions. I had enough names for one round. Well, the girls said they wanted to play it again so I had to come up with another batch of names!

"Deal or No Deal"

My DD played MC. On a table she had 3 overturned shoe boxes with a prize under each one. Each girl would come up and select a box. They were shown the prize that was under that box and they could keep it (Deal) or select another box (No Deal). If they selected another box they forfeited the first prize and kept the second prize. They were all nice things - no junk prizes. :) I got things like a cute notepad & pen, make-up, keychains, jewelry, body lotion or spray. I had enough for each girl to take 3 turns.

When the girl inquired why they were not invited DD was able to say with truth that her Mom limited how many she could invite and that with the 2 of them she would have been over her limit and since one without the other wasn't fair "Mom" made the decision to not invite either.
Oh, I totally understand limiting the number of kids. I wasn't even mad that they didn't invite her. I was mad that their little game rubbed her nose in it. And that the mom was clueless that bringing members of the party over to our house might hurt my DD's feelings. So, I would recommend that if the DD has friends on the street who are not invited to the party that they skip the scavenger hunt.

BTW, I am writing down all these ideas! We're having a beach party for my DD's 9th birthday. As long as her BFF gets over the idea of dead fish in the lake, LOL!
