If we go to sleep at all we will need to wake up at about 1am on our travel day. Last year during the week before we left we did our best to change our sleep patterns, going to bed earlier and waking up earlier on our days off. Still come travel day I think we each got about an hours sleep tops. My question is for everyone who normally stays up quite late yet needs to get up early for their trip to WDW, what do you do? We can't sleep on a plane so it works out to about what, being awake almost 2 full days. The excitement does it's bit and we are exhausted but happy when we finally get to Disney but I'm just curious how everyone handles this.

hi kristina

i do think thats the worst part, i also find that a couple of nights before i keep waking up too. Will you be leaving at 1am or getting up at 1am? if its getting up i would definately go to bed about 8ish, even if you dont actually go to sleep at least you will be resting.

michelle

our flight is leaving at 11am from gatwick so we will leave home about 6 which is fine

Another alternative is to start your vacation early and book an airport hotel for the night before, at least then you will not feel quite so exhausted

We do the same - would hate to have only a few hours sleep before starting a holiday.

There is something somewhere that says if you can't get at least 3 hours sleep (for a night's sleep), then don't sleep at all. Less than 3 hours sort of teases your body (not enough time to go into REM) and you end up feeling worse than if you had none.

I just couldn't do it: sleep is important and I can get grumpy if I get tired...

Hi

We dont prep at all before. We normally go to bed around 10-11 for up and out of the door for about 4ish. We stay up until we go to bed at Disney around 10ish. That way we are tired and will sleep through till 7:00am. This normally adjusts myself and dh well for the holiday. To be honest I work shifts at my hopsital, so I have night duties to cover. At times my body clock is all over the place. I am kind of used to feeling grogy at times.

Its when we come back we have a big problem with jet lag.

We stay the night before at airport hotel and book in twighlight check in so that even if we dont sleep, because we are too excited, we leisurely go to departures. I cant cope not sleeping less than 6 hours! :cool1:

Thanks everyone for the advice :) . We will be waking around 1am to catch a 3:30 train to the airport. I'm afraid there is no way we can stay the night at a hotel near the Gatwick airport but will keep that in mind for next time as it's a good idea! I will probably go to bed around 10:00pm although I'll try for earlier. Stubb I wish I could go to bed around 8pm, that would be lovely. I would do it if I could sleep but I think I'd just lay there awake. Oh well what ever happens soon enough I'll be in WDW and it's going to be great :goodvibes !
