Sleeping Beauty Castle Refurbishment

I noticed for our dates in February, the castle is listed as under refurbishment. Anyone heard any rumors about this? I wonder if it will just be the walk-through or if the whole thing will be covered in a tarp like before the 50th.

Just curious if anyone knows any rumors as I've heard none.

Also curious if this is the case?! It would be a major let down if it were covered/closed. Really hope this will not be the case!

It also looks like Soarin' Over California is closed, and another site is reporting it's closed until May? What are they doing to it that will take 5+ months?

We'll be there in April for the Star Wars Convention across the street....Soarin' is my favorite ride both in California and Florida.

Reported or rumored to be be getting a digital upgrade for the film. Also rumor has it that the entire condor flats area will be getting a period specific aesthetic update.

I hope you get your wish, I would be so disappointed too. It's hard when these things pop up at the last minute, and certainly too hard and expensive to change hotels and flights around at that short notice.

Thank you, we are keeping our fingers crossed

Peter Pan may be down in April as well.

Our Guide for the Holiday Tour said we were getting the new Soarin' Over the World film as well as other digital enhancements.

So the whole video will be different? That's a bummer. I liked that it was specific to CA.

A heard a rumor that one side will show Soarin' over CA and one will show a new 'over the World' one.

Does anyone know what the refub list looks like for March? We are planning on being there March 16th and 17th. But if serious rides are going to be down, we might go back to our original plan of going the last week in May.

I'm coming over from Australia end of Feb. Really concerned about the castle being covered too. Hope we get some answers soon.

So, how does changing out a video take 5 months? I'm just curious.

They will do repairs, thoroughly clean everything, even the outside facade may get a facelift. If it does end up being a new film, then they have to reprogram the whole ride too (and test it probably repeatedly), so that the part you sit in moves when they want it to at the right time in the film, the right scents are emitted, the fans turn on and off at the right time, etc. It's not the same as swapping out a film at a movie theater at all.

In addition to the other things people have already mentioned, they most likely have to replace all the projectors too, as the ones they have probably aren't capable of HD/digital projection.

For those who are still wondering, Soarin' Over California is scheduled to re-open on May 14. Matterhorn Bobsleds is scheduled to re-open on May 15.
