Sleeping at Heathrow...

Thanks for all your kind thoughts everyone. We are now back at my mum's and have begun the arduous task of calling everyone to try and get refunds etc.

Luckily the trains out of Heathrow were fine and we got home quickly, and as we never checked in we didn't have to wait to get our luggage back.

In the end we were all told we had to phone resevrations to rebook and there was nothing available until Wednesday, plus they couldn't really help us as originally we weren't booked onto their flight!

We will replan for the summer and use this money to pay for it/towards it. Going to book a week in NYC then a week in Orlando. Will hold out booking accommodation in the hope of Annual Pass discounts and might treat ourself to a deluxe resort if the price is right! Have probably missed UK free dining promotion now, and have to be back in UK before US free dining starts.

Only downside is it could take between 2-12 weeks to get the money credited back, so can't even go right ahead and book flights!

hi i am sorry i hear about youre bad luck, its not been the best year for snow.
oh hum.
but i have read on a thread that free dining runs upto 31st dec in the uk.

So sorry you're not in Orlando reading about the weather here in the news. A good idea though to beat the blues by planning a replacement trip for next year and to start the ball rolling now. Hope your insurance company, Thomas Cook, Old Uncle Tom Cobbley and all are ultra helpful in reuniting you with your cash so you can buy tickets for the next trip. Good luck. :thumbsup2

Oh dear, so sorry you have had to miss your trip. Am pleased you can get your money back though. At least you have another trip to plan for - we're recently back from NY and loved it!

Got to wait and see if I can go Wednesday now. First the three hour drive from Norwich to Gatwick to survive, and then whether the flight will go. Going to be a long few days waiting . . .

Thanks again everyone :)

Sonya - we will keep our fingers crossed for you on Wednesday. Gatwick seems to have managed much better than Heathrow this time round.

So sorry you had to cancel your trip. At least it wasn't the wedding!

Really sorry to hear about your trip. Actually came to post about being stranded here in Orlando over Christmas because of problems getting the Air Canada flights via Toronto in the other direction. Probably hard to believe but we'd all happily trade with you right now if we could because we're separated from our families.

Hope you manage to navigate all the refunds and such okay and have a fabulous new trip. :goodvibes

We live in Lowestoft and whether you choose the A12 or the A11 it's one hell of a trot down to Gatwick ......... trip downs fine but by the time you hit Ipswich on the way home you're set to drop!

Have you completed a trippie for your New York trip? Would love to hear all about it xx

Heading to NYC and Orlando from 24th July - 13th August, so may see you there :cloud9:

Great minds and all that, lol!

Thanks again for everyone's kind comments. I am definitely glad we will be with our family and not stuck the other way round.

We have also had the refund for the hotel portion of our booking already, and the ground transfers - it is the flights part that could take up to 12 weeks!

Looking forward to planning the summer trip now, and we have been kept busy as so many friends have invited us round to visit :goodvibes
