Sleeping at airport hotel & taking ME the next am...

Hi all! I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this.

We are heading down next April and I just booked our flight down on Southwest. The day we actually wanted to travel was double the price, so we ended up getting a flight for the night before. The flight leaves BDL at 7pm and gets to MCO around 10:35pm.

We have a reservation at Poly, so we can check in the next am and leave our bags and hit the parks, but I don't want to add yet another night when we won't even get to the room until Midnight, or so.

So, I am thinking of staying at the hotel attached to MCO just for the night, but I have never done this so I am not sure how it works. I assume we have to grab our own luggage and then bring it to the hotel to check in?

How do we get the ME the next am? Do I then add the ME luggage tags in the am? Will they know (or care) that our flight arrived the night before? I would like to get on the earliest possible ME. Does anyone know what time they start running?

Thanks!!

You should post this in the transportation forum, but for your luggage, if you use the yellow tags from your airport, ME will direct your luggage to the Poly.

If you don't use them you will have to get your bags, take them to your hotel and get them to ME the next morning.

Thanks! I thought I was in the Transportation forum…duh!

Will they take the bags to the Poly even if we haven't checked in?

Ok....yes, you can do this, easily. Many here do it. Do not tag your checked bags. Two reasons......1. you don't have a resort reservation in effect, so you aren't entitled to use DME luggage service. 2. even if you did tag your bags, they wouldn't be picked up by DME workers (even if you did have a resort reservation in effect). They stop working at 10pm, and start up again the next morning. So, your bags would go around and around the baggage claim carousel until someone came and got them and took them to unclaimed baggage. Then, if they were tagged, someone would get them in the morning. But....no telling how long it would take to get the bags in your room.

I would just leave the tags off, go to baggage claim and get them. Then, you have them with you. Head to DME the next morning....Side B, level 1. Your bags will go beneath the bus you are riding on and handed to you when you get to the Polynesian.

Awesome! Thank you!

Do I have to make up a flight for the next morning or should I just go to the DME area? What's the earliest DME?

Forgot about the time issue but wouldn't they take them to the Poly and then at Poly the CM's wonder why they are there and eventually figure it out? But in this case its best to handle your luggage your self.

There is a long sticky in the transportation forum concerning having you luggage go on ME without you checking in.

Because the flight arrives in MCO at 10:30pm, those bags won't get touched by any DME people. So, they will basically be unattended for quite awhile before someone takes them to unclaimed baggage.
Then, the next morning, someone from DME will come and get them, and get them sent to the Polynesian. I just refuse to have my checked bags unattended for that time!

Should have been clearer, if a bag with a yellow tag goes into the baggage system at MCO during normal times won't they just send it to the resort not worrying about if there is a valid reservation.

It was more in reference to this part of the PP.

1. you don't have a resort reservation in effect, so you aren't entitled to use DME luggage service.

They shouldn't......but. They used to scan all tags. I doubt they are doing that anymore. This is why so many people are crossing out resort names and putting in new ones when they change their resort. It shouldn't be necessary...the barcode has all the resort info that is needed. If a resort change is made, and the reservation number remains the same, then the bar code should have the correct resort info. Because we are now being told, routinely, by CMs to cross out the wrong resort and write in the new one? I'm going to make the assumption that nothing is being scanned.
Which also leads me to believe that there is absolutely no way Disney/DME is going to know if a bag is misdirected, by them or by the airline. At least, not until the guest alerts them, many hours later.
The tags on the bags were supposed to be scanned several times....when they come off the plane, before being put on the truck, again as they go on the truck and then when they come off the truck at the resort. That's how they were tracked. Now? Not sure anyone scans them at all. Way too many issues have cropped up...for me included.

Now I'm confused...will I not be allowed to take the DME the morning after our flight?

Of course you will be allowed Buzz. We do that alot. Just show up with your bags at the ME desk when you're ready to leave for your resort, and you'll be put on the next bus and the driver will put your bags in the luggage area in the lower part of the bus. Then enjoy a relaxing ride to your resort. Oh, and we find the hotel at the airport very nice. We do this when flying in late for a cruise too. Much less stressful, and not worrying about late night driving or missing a cruise.

Chartle and I were discussing the use of DME for luggage service on your arrival day...the day you fly in and stay at the airport hotel.

Have you checked the cost of the Hyatt Regency MCO for that night? I hope you have, or if you haven't, I hope that the cost doesn't "make up" the discount you got. That airport can be expensive.

No, please don't do that when you don't have a reservation for THAT day. Especially with a late arrival.

You can take DME. We are all entitled to a trip from and to the airport on DME during the time between checkin and checkout days.

But the LUGGAGE part of the system isn't part of the deal when we arrive between 10pm and, I believe, 5am, and it's not part of it when we don't have a reservation for the day we land.

Is it *possible* your luggage would ultimately be delivered if you put the tags on? Yes, it's possible. Is it something most of us would gamble on? Nope.

Don't tag your bags, pick them up and take them to the hotel; there are plenty of porters who work for tips and are more than happy to get the bags from the carousel, put them on their cart, and lead you to where you need to go. Then the next morning reverse it, going to DME. The bags will go under your bus.

Leaving MCO, going to WDW, on DME, the flight doesn't really matter. You can have a flight landing at 10am but stop to shop, get a massage if the terminal you come through has that seated massage area, get some lunch, get some starbucks, etc etc. There's no timeframe on that leg of DME.

Thanks,. Yes, I've booked already and it's $200.00. Still saves us $400.00.

Thank you. I will definitely just go grab my luggage and bring it with us. I wouldn't feel right just leaving it to chance!

Have you thought about booking a room at a value resort instead? It could be a bit cheaper than staying at the airport hotel. You would still have to pick up your bags, but Disney will transfer them for you the next day to the Poly.

I did consider that. We have done so in the past. I decided against it for 2 reasons:

1. Our flight is arriving late.By the time we collected our bags, and then traveled to WDW it would be close to midnight. My kids would probably be fine, but my DM and me would be tired! This way we can just grab our stuff, grab a snack and go to our room. So convenient!

2. This is going to sound crazy, but I REALLY want to just take the DME to The Poly, and not to another hotel in WDW! I guess that sounds kooky, but this has long been a dream of mine to stay there, and DD's dream as well. I just want to pull up on the DME and experience that feeling!

Not to mention the fact that it's only about $100 more for the convenience.

Thanks tho! I like when other people help me brainstorm!
