sleeping arrangements in Cat 6 ?

Hi all!
Reading these posts and hoping it all works out...

Just a suggestion that has really worked for us well. Anyone reading this might want to consider for the future. We have 6 in our family. We book two adjoining rooms. They have a door between them. We prop the door open with a bungie cord. The kids sleep 'wherever' each night and it doesn't matter.

Hope you have an awsome cruise... :)

I can speak only to your motion sickness question, and that is to reassure you that I doubt very, very highly that there is any difference at all in that regard.
Thanks very much mcnuss. I've never cruised before and I was only going by what some have told me---to go for midship for the least amount of motion. I'm not normally prone to motion sickness--nor is my dh or kids, but I wasn't sure about my mil. She has the cat 11 handicapped.
I'm guessing the only way for the DVC/DCL to keep us close together was to go for the handicapped rooms ? I did the search on Travelocity again this morning, and although there are 2 or 3 Cat 5 "sleep 4" available, there are no cat 10 or 11 anywhere on the ship. I'm sure the handicapped rooms are not generally viewable & DCL must not have had these booked so it was the most logical way to keep us together on the same deck. I am appreciative that they did this.

I am absolutely positive that you are going to have a wonderful vacation! It sounds like DCL did its best to keep your original arrangement as best as they possibly could.

Click here for an interesting thread called, "Handicapped Accessible Rooms on Ship??? Can you feel the motion???" I can imagine that a smaller, shorter ship might have a teeter-totter effect, where midship might have less motion than fore or aft, but on a ship the size of the Disney ships, I can't imagine that would be the case. My own expereince earlier this year was that the motion seemed about the same everywhere as I walked around the ship.

I think DVC and DCL did a great job of correcting the problem that a DVC CM caused by incorrectly booking MiaSRN62 and party initially. It's surprising that they were able to find staterooms across the hall from each other at this late date.

Those two accessible staterooms (7638 and 7631) appear to be huge in comparison to their conventional counterparts -- probably each 75% larger (or more). And the verandah on stateroom 7638 is much larger than a conventional cat. 5 or cat. 6 verandah; the view should be especially nice if the ship backs into Castaway Cay as it usually does.

Based on what I've read on this board about accessible staterooms, I assume that cat. 5 stateroom 7638 won't have split bath, but will have a large bathroom instead. But given the larger statroom and verandah size, that's not a bad tradeoff. Cat. 11 staterooms don't have split bathrooms anyway, so MiaSRN62's MIL won't lose anything there.

Horace....I couldn't agree more. I was suprised these two were still available also. The more I think about this, the more happy I am with the way this all turned out and the way the DVC handled it. They told me they are sending out my new, updated documents. Thanks so much for the link. I was trying to do a search this morning on these boards for handicapped rooms but the search function was down---and still was just about 30 minutes ago. Your link REALLY helped to put my mind at ease in regards to the motion sickness issue. I'll pass this on to my mil also--thanks again :D

I glad to see that it worked out so well.

There's a description of 7638 by pjkds in this recent thread.

It sounds like a very spacious stateroom. A walk-in closet. Wow!

I'm so glad that this all worked out for you!! I hope you enjoy your new location, those big rooms should be GREAT!!! I'll see you in 19 days!!!
