I have twins who just turned two, and we are staying in a Studio during an upcoming trip. They still sleep in cribs at home. I was thinking of putting them on the pullout couch -- either putting the mattress on the floor, or getting bedrails from mousekeeping. Will bedrails work on the pullout, or is the mattress not thick/heavy enough? I'm trying to avoid the pack-n-play if possible.

Depending on which resort you are staying at, that might not be possible. The new pullouts have foam mattresses, and I don't think it comes off. You can ask for a second Pac N Play, and I'm sure they will bring you one.

Bedrails worked on the pullouts at SSR, but not so well on the one at VWL. The platform type bottom of the pullout at SSR supported the bedrail nicely but at VWL it was more of a springy type of bottom that didn't work quite as well. So if it is a newer foam bed I think you will be fine, just ask for two bedrails, they are more than happy to oblige.

I think your biggest problem might be getting them to settle down, I've never had any luck sticking two kids in the same bed, LOL. We always have one parent sleep with one child to keep things somewhat calm.

There are three types of sleeper sofas - the old style, the SSR style with memory foam and the newest style at various resorts (cushions do not come off the sofa and fold under the bed). Only the older style will allow you to remove the mattress from the sofa. The two newer types cannot be removed easily.

I'd go with the second pack and play.

We also hae toddler twins. We have used two Sesame Street toddler air matresses. they take up very little room and the twins feel like "big kids". they still sllep in cribs at home but we have used them on a number of trips and they work out great. Obviouly since they are on the floor there is no concern of them fallling of the bed.

We traveled to Disney World three times when our twin girls were still in cribs. The first time they had just turned two, and they slept in pack and plays. We stayed in a 2BR at SSR, and it came with two pack and plays. My girls REALLY like to be able to see/touch each other (they share a bedroom at home, and shared a crib until they were almost one), so we had the pack and plays set up in the master br next to each other. Not ideal because it was crowded, but they slept through the night and all was good! I brought sheets from home, so it smelled familiar.

The second time we stayed at a Studio at OKW, and I slept with the girls in one bed and my son slept with my mother in the other bed. Totally not something that would've worked at home, they would've been too excited to sleep in the "big guy bed", but after a day in the park, they immediately fell asleep in the big bed, no problem.

The last time we went, we stayed off site, and that time we had a suite that had a California King bed. Our girls slept inbetween my DH and myself. Again, not something that would've worked at home, but didn't have any problems with them getting to sleep and staying asleep.

I guess I should mention that my DH and I have no problem with our children sleeping with us!

If you don't want to go with 2 pack and plays I would use the air mattresses that the pp mentioned. It can be very tricky to set up bed rails on a pull out, and you may not want to have to mess with that when you're sleepy.

Why not put the kids in the regular queen bed and the adults on the sofa bed if need be.

We're staying at BCV...does anyone know which type of mattress they have?

I think your biggest problem might be getting them to settle down, I've never had any luck sticking two kids in the same bed, LOL. We always have one parent sleep with one child to keep things somewhat calm.

I agree...I'm worried about how they are going to sleep in the same bed, too. I am totally prepared to put one parent with one child, if need be. I have no problem with that, however, I know from the times when I've brought one of the children into bed with us, when they were sick or not sleeping well, that DH does not sleep well. Even though they are 2yo, I think he's still worried about rolling over on them.

ruddydvc - Where did you get the Sesame Street toddler air mattresses? Are they expensive?

Twingle - Our twins have also visited WDW three times while in cribs (7-months, 10-months, and 20-months). DD is pretty flexible, and has slept in either a rollaway crib, or pack-n-play. DS would not settle down in either, and ended up sleeping between DH and I...we were in a 1-bedroom, so thank God for the king-size bed! I just don't want to run into that scenario during this trip, because of the queen-size bed in the Studio. You bring up a good point about fumbling with bedrails on the pull-out after a long day at the parks.

Best case scenario - DS and DD sleep well on the pull-out, and we can manage to keep them from rolling off.
2nd best scenario - DD is still willing to sleep in a pack-n-play (but it's been a while), and DS sleeps on the pull-out (although Mommy will probably end up here too).
3rd best scenario - DH and one child in bed, Mommy and one child on pull-out (or vice versa).

I have traveled several times with my twins and if we were not in a 1 bedroom or larger. King bed.... I would bring an air mattress with me.

I get the slightly elevated now but back then a regular full/queen size is $20 at Walmart you don't have to worry about anyone rolling or any sharp edges. The expensize elevated ones I bring home. the 20 dollar ones I got when they were babies I would leave them at teh end of the trip. I figured at 20 dollars it cost me way less than a rollaway or 2 toddler bed rentals for a week.I brought a sheet from home and used the pillows and the blankets supplied for the pullout bed.

the pullout sofa scare the heck out of me where there is the space between the mattress and the couch.:scared1: I know the new sofa beds at SSR this seemed to not be a problem but... I am not sure which DVC has the new style or old style.

In any event A babys best friend also rents toddler beds for a week aound 60 dollars maybe thats another alternative as well. good luck!!
