We are going to Disney in about 6 months. My son will be 18 months old. They say kids under 3 can sleep in a pack n play. I have a pack n play, and the manual says the weight limit is 30 lbs. My son weighs 26 lb 10 oz now, and I feel like there's a really good chance he will be over 30 lbs by then.

I don't feel comfortable putting him in a regular hotel bed at that age. What do people do with their toddlers??? Is a couple of pounds over the weight limit for the pack n play ok as long as he's not jumping around in it? I'm starting to have some anxiety about sleeping arrangements for him.

I think he will be fine in the pack n play. It seems to be a length rather than weight issue for those things.
When my kids outgrew it, we just call Housekeeping and request a bed rail. Push the bed up next to the wall and place the rail on the other side. (Or get two bed rails if the bed can't be moved). Pillows on the floor just in case. We have never had a problem, three kids and a dozen trips later :)
Have fun! The likelihood that your child will be worn out from having so much fun at Disney is high. They are usually zonked out and sleep super soundly.

Babies slow down in their growth a TON after they turn 1. There's a good chance he won't even make it to 30 lbs in 6 month. My son is 22 months and he's only gained like 3 pounds since his 1 year check-up! He will be sleeping in a pack and play when we go to Disney next month for sure, he's way too little to sleep in a bed. I'm even concerned about my 3 year old in a bed because I'm worried he'll fall out! The pack and play should be fine for your little one!

If you are concerned and would like a regular crib, you can order one from a baby's best friend and they will deliver it to your hotel. I have not done that in WDW but did in Hawaii and they were great.

You should be completely fine with the pack n play even if he is a few pounds over. I have 4 kids and never even knew there was a weight limit! Mine just stop using it when they get too long for it.

My son seems big to me for his age, so I've been reading the weight limits on everything! He's already too big for some things I feel kids his age should be able to use. But I'm a first time mom, maybe this is normal!

has he started climbing yet? by 18 months he will be climbing and jumping so falling a bed will be easy. I would be more worried about falling over the rail of pack n play at that age

The problem with that is it's not guaranteed and I would still need a plan B just in case.

This is the exact reason that I used a babys best friend in Hawaii. It was about $60 for the week for the crib and it included all of the bedding. At least way, you won't need to worry about it.

We took DS at 18 months (about 24 lbs) and DD at 21 months (about 24 lbs also) to WDW. Both slept in the pack-n-play. No fear of them breaking it or falling over the railings. They only used it for sleeping. Never had any problems or concerns about it. I am not sure how a crib would be much safer - sturdier maybe but if a kid is going to climb over the sides of a pack-n-play then they will try it on the crib too.

that is the reason both of our girls were in twin beds at 15 months as they were clearing the rail

No, not yet. He can't even walk holding onto my hands yet. He can get himself onto the first stair of our staircase and that's about it. I think it might vary kid to kid though. My sister's 26 month old son is still in a crib and he hasn't ever tried to climb out that I know of.

yes it varies but my first went over the rail just days after her first steps by self and was trying before that day. just be prepared that your son can be different than your sister's and there is a big difference between 12 months and 18 months in age as to what they can do

My son is 2 1/2 years old and weighs about 36 lbs. In September the pull down bed at the Caribbean Beach that we'd hoped he'd sleep in was just too distracting/exciting for him, so we ended up calling the front desk for a pack n play. He did fine in that for our time there. I wouldn't worry about it at all. He actually still naps in a pack n play at a relative's house, because again, it's just too exciting for him to stay in a bed :-)

Kids are funny. My 2 1/2 year old climbs on EVERYTHING and has since he could walk...except (knock on wood) his crib. I've had the toddler bed conversion kit ready to go for about a year now, but we haven't needed it yet.

He might actually be okay in a bed. We pushed hotel beds to the wall at that age, though all three of my kids could easily climb in and out of a bed by then - even my kid who was a fairly new walker at 18 months. There's a lot of change betweenness 12 and 18 months. Some hotels may even have bedrails. We just slept with an adult next to the toddler and the wall on the other side and it wasn't an issue. (Or, a parent on either side).

So he's a year old now? Once he starts walking (aka Running) he will most likely not gain weight as toddlers tend to be go,go go. He may only gain a few ounces and that is normal.

Always do what you're comfortable with but I used the extra pillows on the toddler's side to make a barrier so they wouldn't fall out of the bed and then I slept on the other side.

My daughter was barely 15 pounds at that age, but she was tiny. She slept in her crib until after she was 4. We had the kind that could lower one side, so I put a little step stool so she could get in and out, but she fit fine until I think almost 5 years old!

If you're at CSR they will have a pack & play for you. No need to bring your own.

For travel at 3 or 4 years old, I had bought an Aerobed "sleepaway" bed. It's a smaller than twin size air mattress, with raised sides. My kids sometimes fought over who got it!

This seems to be a similar one: https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/product/aerobed-reg-for-kids/1014928472
