Sleep Sets and Nightgowns as alternative to Customs?

Couldn't you just buy disney themed tee shirts and wear with shorts? I've found disney shirts at walmart/target/Kmart all within the same price or cheaper then disney pjs.

:thumbsup2
I just bought a Lion King tee at Target for 2.50! It is cotton (no poly like in the pajamas-so it is cooler to wear).

Missing the point of wearing pjs in public.......

Yeah, I have a 10 year-old daughter who will be 11 on our next trip and I agree with what others are saying as to the age. I would definitely ask her about it if you haven’t already. I know for mine, wearing pajamas to the park would not go over well at 9. At 9, she wore mostly tank tops or t-shirts and shorts and skirts to the parks. Would definitely do it with my 4 year-old if we were touring in the evening.

This is what we do. We're going in May for a week and I'm getting each child 2 custom shirts from etsy this year for the first time. We've had other trips where we did the iron-on shirts from the Creative DISign Forum on here, but last year and this year it will be mostly store bought Disney themed shirts with regular shorts for my son and the same for my daughter but she’ll probably also want to take some pettiskirts along.

Wal-Mart though and the Disney store have character t-shirts for sale. Children’s place sometimes does too. Target usually has some as well. Children's Place is where I got the shirts my daughter wore last summer. Disney store has some on sale now for $8. Wal-Mart has some for $7. I know because I have been looking for some shirts for them recently. Since it's about time to buy spring/summer clothes anyway. I just incorporate those into the budget I set for spring/summer.

My DD 9 wouldn't be caught dead in that at the parks. She has a set almost exactly like that, wore it to school a bit reluctantly on pajama day but just about died of embarrassment when we had to stop in at the grocery store for something on the way home from school. I think they look very pajama-y and 4 or 5 would be ok, but at 9....
That said, no one is going to notice or care ar Disney. It's just what you and your DD feel comfortable with.

Sure they will notice. My son does. "Mom, that looks like pajamas. Why is she wearing pajamas?" Has been said, quietly, more than once by my son. No one is saying it to the child but to say it won't be noticed at all doesn't ring true for me.

I think its fine for the under 5 set, but there is no way my girls would have worn jammies in public. They were all pretty fashion conscious at that age.

Wow, just can't believe all these answers. :rolleyes1

OP, I have seen it all at Disney - lots of 'costumes', etc. that you cannot tell the difference between night wear and day wear. I wouldn't think twice about seeing something like that on a 9 year old if she likes it. You won't see these people again, so do what you want, not what others think you should. They actually don't look any different than a lot of character sets/items I've seen children wearing in the parks, or in the shops. (Everyone 'should look' so good! - have seen even adults wearing what I know is pj's).

Of course, you did ask, and people have given their opinions, so guess that's what it's all about. Guess that's the reason I never 'ask' for other's opinions on what I do or think because it's my decision to make anyway. I'm a pretty independent person and what others think/say don't unduly affect me. :goodvibes

We brought one of the fancy nightgowns from Disney Store. It was easier to stuff in my purse that the costumes. Since my daughter was wearing a tank top and shorts anyway, when we put it over her clothes, the barely showed. She wore it to visit a couple of princesses and then it went back in my purse. It worked out great. And in the pictures it doesn't look much different from the costumes. I'd do it again in heartbeat.

LOL You are right I did ask, so I will just say thanks for the opinions. :thumbsup2

My daughter LOVES PJ day at school and would be more than happy to wear her PJ's in public and out anywhere. I guess she is an odd 9 year old. :rotfl:

She really doesn't notice what she wears or what her friends wear but maybe it's just because no one really makes a big deal about this stuff here in her class. IDK.

I bought some and we will use them as PJ's at home and on the trip, if she chooses to wear them one day in the park then that's what she will wear. Just like my 7 year old son who sometimes wears his Ninja Turtle or Darth Vader costume out in public or his tae kwon do uniform. :thumbsup2

Exactly how did I get grouped in with this comment? I was being honest - I haven't had my daughters wear their Disney PJs in the parks. My mother has bought them both a lot of Disney PJs. They love to wear them and choose to wear them nearly every night. In my experience with that I have noticed they show a lot of pilling and recommended the OP choose to save the first wear for Disney so they didn't show pilling at Disney. I'm not sure how that is an answer you "can't believe." There is nothing offensive in there unless you are trying to be offended.

If she likes to wear them, I'd let her. We have pajama days, and the kids wear their pjs out to the movies or whatever, and it's no big deal. They love doing it. They are comfortable and have fun. I think you will probably blend in much more at Disney then we do at the pizza place.

I think it would be OK for maybe up to 4ish then not so much. I can't imagine my 5 or 7yos being happy wearing PJs to the park. They would know they were PJs and would be upset about wearing them outside of the house. I gave my oldest an option of wearing PJ (for her its sweats and a tshirt) on the plane to FL and she was not having anything to do with that "Mom, Ill wear my dress on the plane and change when we get there". Ok, whatever floats her boat :)

As for cheaper t shirts, Old Navy has hem as we'll for under $5. I got my 4 year old this awesome Woody google eye shirt last month.

Actually, now that I think about it, I wish I would have held that shirt back so he didn't see it There is no way it will make it to December and his would have been perfect for the trip. Grrr..

Sorry, it was an accident! Removed it. :flower3:

If DD wants to wear the outfit, let her. I would think that the shirt along with a pair of jeans or leggings would be more in line with a 9 year old. But, then again, I don't know your DD and mine is 16 now. Seeing the shorts in person would either make or break for my DD's decision for wearing them out.

FWIW, I don't wear my pj bottoms out, but I do have a couple of tops that came from these types of sets. I wear the tops out as daywear and rarely wear them to sleep in.

Kids have to grow up with so many rules. If she wants to wear it and she is comfortable, let her. If it's see through, get her a tank for underneath. A trip to Disney is a time to relish in childhood.

In October DD wore a couple of designer princess night gown to the park. It looks like a costume but is much cooler. She still wears them to bed frequently and might be wearing them to DLR in December.

This is her in the Rupunzel one at 1900 Park Fair.

I can't find pics of her in her Merida outfit but here is what this year's version looks like. Itts also is on sale right now.
