sleep number bed

Out of sheer curiosity, how much do they cost typically? Are they a fixed cost or do you negotiate?

They are not cheap at all. But not much different than a quality spring mattress and box set. ANd those begin to sag and wear out the first night you sleep on them.

Our King is actually two beds so the pressure can be adjusted for each person. the pressure is pretty close to the same with other person in bed or not.

one of the great things, I like mine soft after a workout, and more firm on normal days.

Actually, one of the best benefits of the bed is that you no longer have to flip your mattress every month! That makes me happy-happy! :goodvibes

DH has a back issue and was told by his PT that the bed was one of the best things he could do to reduce his pain. He has his set at 35, mine is at 60 since I prefer my bed a little firmer. It works for us.

BTW--since we have purchased ours, SEVERAL family members have done the same and they are all pleased with their purchase.

Now see, that's what I would like. When DH rolls over, moves, or gets out of bed then I wouldn't feel the movement. That I did notice this past weekend at the hotel where we had the sleep number bed. That feature alone is a keeper.

I wonder how the sleep number bed compares to the Temperpedic (sp?) bed. My friends have this kind and they claim it's the best nights sleep they ever had. I wonder if this kind is good for a bad back.

I LOVE mine. The only downside is when I go to a hotel their beds are even more uncomfotable to me now. Lol. I have had mine for two years and have never once had a problem with it, and it's been a dream.

ETA: I forget the exact model, but i have a middle of the road model. I would not get the one without any topper, because I think that is the one where you can feel the air rolling around. Mine has a small topper built in, and it is wonderful.

OH YEAH!!!!!

My sleep number is 45

hehehehehehee

We have had ours for about 7 years. I am very happy with it - my side stays at 35 all the time. We bought the pillowtop king - not sure why pp recommended against the pillowtop, but it has been great for us.

If you want to save some serious $$, call their toll free number and ask about refurb beds - if they're available for sale in your state, they will be WAY less than in the store. These could be returns, or last years coverings. The company replaces everything, except for the pumps and tubing, in the refurb beds. Same 20 year warranty as the store models, just less $$. If your state law doesn't allow you to purchase a refurb bed, they have a great deal, too - the last years' model - it is identical to the current model, except for the pattern on the cover.

As far as memory foam, we did try a topper once, and it was HOT. I couldn't imagine a mattress made of it!

I have the top of the line comfortaire, minus the memory foam, with latex foam to decrease the heat and we love it!

:thumbsup2 I'm a 40 DH is a 30. Have had it for 5 years and LOVE it! No problems at all. bought it on the recommendation of 2 neighbor families (and one of their parents) and haven't regretted it. If you have only slept on one one night, don't give up. I think it took a week or more for me to get my number right. I kept thinking I liked my bed firm, but turns out i like it a little softer. Who knew:confused3 . Love that I don't have to flip the mattress, too. I do pump it up every now and then--usually when I change the sheets-- and re-set it back down to my #. I don't know why, but I think it feels better. They do have a 30-day trial. I'm betting you'll be happy with it and decide to keep it by then

We have 2 of them and love them. But here's the thing...there are cheep number beds and more expensive number beds. If you get the cheep ones you will not be happy.

Both ours were $3500 -4000 each. not the one that is $1600. A good mattress these days will run you at least $2,000.

WE have one for me and DH and one for my 14 year old and will get one for my 11 y.o when he gets older and needs a bigger bed.

I have a very bad back, neck pain and shoulder pain and could not sleep at night at all....always awake and got the number bed and sleep all night long through the night...no problem.

Know do i wake up once in awhile with pain in the morning...yes I do but nothing like before. I did not get it as a fix all to get rid of my pain. I got it so I would sleep through the night without waking up...Well task accomplishes. We have had our bed for 2 years.

As some posters mentioned check out referbished beds...you can save up to like $1500...and by the way my # is 35...DS is 45...DH is 50...when my sister and her boyfriend stay over there number is 10...they like it real mussy and sleep in a whole. :rotfl2:

I've had my Sleep Number bed for about 15 months, and I love it! I got the "middle of the road" model (#5000) and it's been great. My sleep number is 60. :thumbsup2

Does anyone have The Sleep Better Bed?
I know everyone says get the "Sleep number" but just wondering. This one has the same warranty and on the surface "looks" the same.....

Just wondering.

We hated ours. It was like sleeping on a giant hill, not matter what the company suggested it would not keep it's shape, it deflated but not evenly. There is a middle divider but it is just foam pieces and it really did not hold up well. I called the company and was told that the bed was not the right size for us, we had bought a queen with two controls. My husband is a big man, he is 6'5" with 50 inch shoulders, the baffle on his side of the bed was too small for him. I asked her what could we do now, the salesperson recommended it to us and we followed his guidance. We should have bought a king or the less expensive one control bed to avoid that middle support issue. So sorry, nothing they could do but send an additional piece of foam. We got rid of it but I was frustrated, it was a lot of money for a lousy nights sleep.

I think that I was more irritated with the level of customer service we got, I never expect something for nothing but was appalled that a company would tell me we selected the wrong bed and that while they knew the salesperson was selling on their behalf there was nothing they would offer to help us. This was not a case of not liking the sleep surface, that would have been on us. This was a case of the sleep surface not holding up, so much for a guarantee. We were told that they were not responsible for that :confused3

We have had ours for going on 10 years-and are very happy with it-my husband has back issues and its the only bed he sleeps well in. its very comfortable-the only thing i dislike is that the mattress is very light so it moves around-has to be pushed back up on the bed frame almost everymorning

If anyone is looking for a softer surface to sleep on and doesn't want to invest in new bed, you should try out a high quality feather bed topper. I inherited an extremly firm matress from my parents (the floor is softer!). I like to sleep on my side and I have wide hips, so unless i can sink into a matress, my spine is all bent out of shape and i get very sore on my hip as well. I bought a top of the line feather bed from JC Penney's and it was FANTASTIC! Even my DH, who like firmer beds normally, loved it. Penney's doesn't have the really good ones anymore (last I checked anyway) but I've seen them on Overstock. They run $150 to $250, depending on brand and size. I need to replace my old one, in fact I think I'll go and look today! :)

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 Count it, that is 4 Thumbs up. Ok, I have 2, my DW has 2.... :rotfl2:

I am a 55 on the sleep number, my wife is a 40. We have gone through 2 different beds before I told her that it's. Our first bed was a Serta. Every morning I would wake up with a back ache. I convinced the wife to go to a futon matress. Nice and hard, and she woke up with a back ache. That was all I needed. A buddy recommended it. So we went to the mall and bought one. Never looked back.

The one thing that no one has commented on is the sex. It is a pain when you meet in the middle with different number. :lovestruc . It creates two levels. Your choice is live with it or set both sides to be the same number. Our numbers are not that far apart. However, when we first started out on the bed, I was a 70, and the wife was a 30. It takes a bit to find your number. However, once you dial it in, you are golden. :cool1:

I have slept on the hotel beds that are sleep numbers and well they suck. If you are going to get one, you need to get one with the pillow top.

Just my 2 cents.

Happy sleeping.

We just stayed in a hotel this past weekend that had them. It was ok...ok at best. I wasn't overly impressed. I guess I had a good night's sleep, but I brought my number down so low, it was in the teens. DH had his in the 40's.

Maybe others will chime in and have a different experience. For the two nights we slept on it, it didn't make me want to run out and buy one.

Ita, the ones in the hotel (at least the one I slept on), the motor to pump/deflate was loud and the remotes were basic (air up or down). It did not have the pillow top, the message option, or the pillow top which I am acustomed to. :surfweb:

As Got Disney said, it aint cheap. But in my mind, the bed is so worth it. Ditto about finding a refurbished, I wish we did that.

While I was pregnant, I could deflate/inflate, raise or lower the bed (like a craftmatic), get this, I eventually used the bed as a changing table since the foot lifts so high-lol. I believe you cannot purchase the split and have the 30 day trial. It possible the policy has changed, I don't know. My sleep numbers flexes between 35-50.

May I suggest, if you have a Sleep Number store nearby, go more than once at diferent times of the day. Good luck deciding.
