Hi again! First I just want to say how much I love this site! It has been a great source for booking my upcoming Disney trip (May).

I posted out a few days ago regarding where to stay (driving from Philly)... I've decided to stay at the Sleep Inn in Walterboro. I was just wondering if anyone out there has stayed here and what you thought about the hotel and surrounding area.

Thanks again for your valuable replies!

:D

Hi, I am new to this site but also love the info concerning Disney.I am from S.C (near Walterboro). Walterboro is a small town. If you need variety of places to eat, etc. then you will have trouble. If you don't, it is o.k.place for stopover. I am not familiar w/ that particular Sleep Inn but they are usually neat and clean. Hope this helps!

The Sleep Inn is a decent hotel. Stayed there twice, but we've always gotten there after twelve hours of driving and didn't use the ammentities, only the beds. We've spent the night in Walterboro seven or eight times when we ran out of steam on the way to Orlando. Walterboro is basically a town for folks that run out of steam on their way to Orlando. Watch out for the gas station called "El Cheapo." If it's still there, it's a great photo.

Follybsc is correct that there isn't much right at the Walterboro exit (although it's adequate). But a hint if you want better choices, a grocery store, etc. Keep going further after you exit, through the hotel section. About five miles (I think west, but ask at the hotel) is the actual town of Walterboro, whereas right off the exit is just the hotel district. You'll find an ample supply of stores and restaurants there.

We stayed there before on the way home, drove from Philly too.
Read before about crime rate around that area and two times we didn't have a pleasant experience with rooms in that area. One was comfort inn, that I remember. First room was musty and dank, switched to second room which wasn't much better. Up and out in 17 minutes the next morning and didn't even eat the complimentary breakfast there. Second time don't remember which hotel we stayed at but it was ok, not great.
Last year we pushed and drove into Virginia because we didn't want to get caught staying in Walterboro again. Maybe we just had bad experiences.

SORRY, I WAS THINKING OF BATTLEBORO, NORTH CAROLINA, MY MISTAKE!!!!!!!

We stayed at the Ramada in Walterboro which was okay. The next exit down (33) I believe has a Best Western with an indoor pool. Just thought I would pass it along!
