Does anyone else get so excited before and during trips to DLR that they can't sleep? Its a little embarrasing considering I'm an adult. LoL! What do you do to get a good night sleep before and during your visit? Or what strategies do you use to relax and rest. Leaving in 10 days and am probably way too xcited. :)

I take two Benadryl the night before and every night of our trip. Helps me sleep through all the hotel noise (and the noise of sleeping in the same room with my kids) and I wake up rested and ready for rope drop:thumbsup2

I'm already finding myself too excited to sleep and I don't leave till Saturday morning. I am nervous though that I won't wake up in time and miss my flight (which leaves at 6:45 AM!) ;) Trying to get any sleep tomorrow night will be a challenge with all the excitement and butterflies and managing to get up at 4am. It's all part of the fun though right!? :rotfl:

Benadryl for me, and we bring our white noise machine on all trips... Plus all the early mornings and walking, we pretty much crash at night.

I just go with the insomnia before I leave. Once I get there I just have a couple drinks in the evening the first night and I am out! :cloud9:

Some type of muscle-ache / pain reliever is what I use. Once we leave for the airport I take a dose. After that I take something as needed during the day. And I always take something about an hour before bedtime. I find it helps me relax and takes away and age related aches.

Geemo

I often dont sleep much the night before our trip ( we always drive so its a mix of excitement and making sure we have thought of everything in my head). But during the trip I have no issues sleeping. I may not get enough sleep as I am a late night person by nature and we are rope drop people on the trip but I am always so tired after walking the parks all day and all the rides and such that I sleep like a baby during the trip.

I don't take Benadryl just to fall asleep, I would just take a sleep aid for that. ZZZ-Quil comes to mind. :) While there I always have some Tylenol PM though, my legs will ache after a day of walking so that helps ease the aches and helps me sleep as well. :)

Both of the products you mention use Benadryl as the "sleep aid". :lmao:

You're right, both products I mention have Diphenhydramine HCl, I didn't say I take ZZZQuil, just that it came to mind. :) I should have mentioned valerian instead. LOL ;)
I did say that I take Tylenol PM because my legs ache, which isn't taking it just to help me sleep.

I do however think it's interesting that ZZZQuil says it's just for sleep, in fact from their website~
Some PM products contain a pain reliever such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen in addition to a sleep-aid ingredient. ZzzQuil is different from these because it does not contain any pain reliever. ZzzQuil: Its not for colds. Its not for pain. Its just for sleep.

However, when looking at Diphenhydramine's use it says~
Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine. It blocks the effects of the naturally occurring chemical histamine in the body.
Diphenhydramine is used to treat sneezing; runny nose; itching, watery eyes; hives; rashes; itching; and other symptoms of allergies and the common cold.
Diphenhydramine is also used to suppress coughs, to treat motion sickness, to induce sleep, and to treat mild forms of Parkinson's disease.

So it seems that ZZZQuil isn't being entirely honest because while it doesn't have pain reliever it does have antihistamine which is used to treat colds. :lmao:

I don't think there is anything that eliminate the insomnia that comes with 2 to 3 days before departure (do I have everything etc.....) but I firmly believe after a long day in the park a good stiff drink and a soak in the hot tub can't be beat for putting you in snooze mood! I always walk back to the room drowzy and ready for sleep.

I'm a late night person also! Hopefully I will sleep well during the trip!

On our first trip to Disneyland, due to some issues I had to deal with on our airline tickets, and with the excitement of the trip, I ended up staying up all night before a 6 am flight to California. We went to Disneyland as soon as we landed and spent the entire day.

I thought it would ruin the day, but adrenaline must have kicked in, as I felt ok until about 6 pm when I started to crash. No problem sleeping that night...

Some people swear by Melatonin. My 19 year old son uses and says it works great.

Ambien does work, but the one time I took it I had horrible, vivid dreams the next night. But I think I was just totally sleep deprived from being very ill and in the hospital.

Thanks for the advice. Where do you find Melatonin and what is it? I hope ppl keep responding to this because all the advice does and will help. :)

I use "knock out" it has melatonin and valerian in it. You can get it at whole foods and the like. It's made by Schiff.

I use Sleepworks. It has niacin, vitamin B-6, magnesium, zinc, valerian, and melatonin. It comes in a 2oz bottle and tastes good. Some of the sleep aids aren't all natural and that bothers me.
