sled dogs?

In Skagway we plan to rent a car and drive to (most of the way?) Emerald Lake.
My kids definitely want to visit the sled dog puppies and do a cart ride.

Where is the best place to do this?
Somewhere tour busses don't go?

I don't know where the best place to do this is, but it sounds like probably not wherever the DIS guys went:

We went to Caribou Crossing, however some buses go there. Honestly, most places with them will have tours going there, else how are they going to make any money?

We really enjoyed our time there. We went with Chilcoot Charters on a very small group tour and stopped there for lunch and to spend some time. Some folks did the dog cart, others just played with the puppies (it was an option). https://cariboucrossing.ca

If you're willing to take a helicopter the glacier with sled dogs was amazing. Yes it's expensive, but it was the ultimate highlight experience of our trip. We booked independently in Skagway through Alaska shore excursions and it was $200 cheaper per person than booking through Disney. One member of our party chose to go on land to the summer sled dog camp and they were not thrilled with the experience. It's crowded and riding a cart in the dirt is not like riding a sled in the snow.

It gives you a jumping off place to research options. I think it is the Tutshi dog visit mentioned by a PP. They had options without the sled ride.

We rented a car in Skagway and drive all the way to Whitehorse. Had a wonderful roast beef sandwich for lunch and came back. The scenery was so varied. Emerald Lake is beautiful. The snowy mountains after the climb out of Skagway were otherworldly (my reaction to the lighting).
