Slacker or Commando? What's your WDW trip style? (Inspired by Eeyoreloverforever)

Commando and Slacker are two terms I've heard often, to describe WDW touring styles.

Which fits you best? Do you have every day planned, crammed full of parks/rides/PS schedules, or do you take your time?

I definitely lean towards Slacker style, probably because I've been there several times, and want to relax.....and only visit what interests me, not everything every trip.

What about you? Commando, Slacker, or a combination? :)

Combination!

It actually depends on how much sleep DD gets the night before!LOL

But I think these next two trips will try to become slackers! But with so much to see and do.......

Usually Commando we always go go go and stay at the parks while the little ones sleep in the stroller.

Combination. I'll typically have a few things that are "must do"s and either get done right away or have strict plans for later, the rest of the time is relaxed.

Combination here too. The days that are planned are planned commando. I always try to throw a a couple of days of slacker in between too for a break.

Now that we're DVC owners we've switched from commando to slacker. We know that we'll be back again in a year or less, so except for rides which are scheduled to close we don't feel as if we have to do everything while we're there.

I'm a slacker :p I'm not much of a morning person to begin with so when I'm on vacation the last thing I want to do is to wake up early and rush around on a schedule.

Besides, I figure anything I miss is just another excuse to start planning my next WDW trip... (as if I really needed an excuse :goodvibes)

I'm some where in the middle. I usually make a list of must sees/do's for the trip and I can be a liitle anal in getting those things in. I'd consider myself a slacker because I make very few ps's, and really try to go with the flow of the day and how my ds is feeling.

The first visit I was a commando for sure. Trying to do (and BUY) everything, because I really never thought I'd get to do it again. Then when I started to plan the second trip I realized how much I didn't see or do. Now that I am returning for my fifth visit my style is much more relaxed because I know I will be back. I know this because i bought an AP!!!:p

Well I'm not too sure yet!!lol

I have 3 month's from today to finish planning and other then the fact that the lodgings and attraction tickets are all purchased I haven't done the park planning yet. My boys don't nap so most likely we will be at the parks from early morning (early risers here..... well except dh but he's only 1 to our 3 so we will have him up ;) ) until we feel like taking a rest.

I don't suspect I'll be able to convince dh to go back too soon (it's been 11 yrs since out last visit..... but there were kids and buying a house in there) so I have 7 days to fit all 4 parks and water parks in....... and 7 before that to do everything else we want to do in Florida...... so I'm guessing we'll be trying to do it all! I'll need a vacation from my vacation!!lol

I'm a commando during the planning and booking stages - trying to get everything lined up and somewhat planned ahead of time. (Okay you can say anal...)

But once that's taken care of and we arrive, things slow down and we can relax and enjoy the parks, knowing we've thought about most of our days and have a general idea of what we'd like to see and do - but I can't stand lines... so we wing it too!

Now my DW might disagree with me...

(I'm already planning next April's trip!!)

I was a total commando the first trip, and it drove DH crazy. I've tried to mellow since then, but I have a hard time being the free spirit he is. I think part of that is that I get to WDW, and the excitement builds and I become a hyperactive 6 year old who wants to do everything now . :bounce:

I do work hard to control myself, though, and try to make up for it by just knowing stuff. So last time, if we woke up in time we would go to the EMH park, otherwise, we went to a different park. By agreement, we all decided that the one hard and fast plan was to do Epcot's EMH, and head to M:S. Although, I had a hard time containing myself when they dawdled and sauntered on the way, I didn't say anything. Yes, I know, I'm a bigger child than my child, but what can you do?

On our last non-WDW trip, I actually managed to let DH set most of the itinerary, as it happened.

Kungaloosh!
Mort.

Started as a commando but am more in the slacker mode except in planning. I tend to plan out what parks, what days and more importantly PS's at the places we'll be eating.

Can remember one trip when DS was small (probably about 5/6)actually checking off the attractions as we saw/rode them. That was a definite commando trip.

Now that we have AP's we tend to relax and see what we want at a much slower pace as we know we'll be back.

Can't wait til October!!!

Hmmm....quite a combination...lol. :)

It seems that many of us start out a Commando, and then lose a bit a steam!! :p Multiple trips, aging (;)), all sorts of reasons.

BitsnBearsMom, you'll have to let us know which you are, when you get back!! ::yes:: :D

I suppose I could have done this as a poll, if I'd remembered how to do one, that is....:o

I better answer.

I think I would prefer "slacker" mode, but dh inisists on"commando" mode.

He starts planning months in advance and we have a written out schedule. He plans what park for what day and when we get to Disney he gets all the schedules for the parks and plans what rides to do in what order. The day of that paticular park he gets the schedule of shows right away and then plans for all of those. God forbid you have to pee or eat!!!

God bless him though. We love him and if it weren't for him we would not have become the Disney crazy family we are!

Our friends all come to us when planning their trips because they think we are the experts on anything Disney.

Just realized eeyoreloverforever that you're in Dartmouth. I grew up there and have lots of fond memories of it. We lived near Cole Harbour and when I went back a couple of years ago couldn't believe the difference. Have to admit Mic Mac Mall seemed smaller than I remembered as a kid. :p

Even though Mic Mac is a good mall, it does seem small. Maybe it is just because I am getting bigger (older) and the mall doesn't ever seem to change.

Living here is okay, but since we are Disney lovers it would be easier to live in Toronto so we could just hop on one plane to get to Disney. I hate switching planes. But the only way to go direct from Halifax to Florida is by a small crappy plane and it only leaves and comes back once a week, so that limits your trip to 7 days or 14 and as much as dh loves Disney he would never leave his job for that long.
