Skyliner Issues Continue

Just returned home from vacation at BWV and during my time we rode the skyliner a few times just to see the views. I'm not afraid of heights as I was an avid skier and used gondolas all the time. I will say on windy days like we had ,the cabs come into the stations fairly hard and close to the one in front. We swayed so much that it felt like maybe they would be closing down but we never felt unsafe. They should have an interactive communications system in each cab so if something does happen you know what is going on. I would not be happy stuck in a cab for three hours with no information. I would never ride the skyliner in summer heat as you could bake quickly. During winter months no problems except issue of communication,, I'm sure disney will work this out so it will be safer and issues will be fixed.

The wind speed has nothing to do with that. The cabins move at a fixed speed so long as they are clamped to the cable. It is only after they enter the station and are released from the cable that they can begin deceleration. The tires that propel the cabins after they leave the cable are set to decrease speed at a fixed rate, so the cabin will always be down to a safe speed before closing on the preceding cabin.

They do.

I feel like they should have banned ECV and or mobility issue passengers on the skyliner. Having to pull off cabins the line seems to cause alot of issues. I'm sorry if this seems harsh.

I wonder if this is the first skyliner that has the pull off because most at ski resorts are just go,go,go . I could be wrong tho. New tech with some bumps in the learning.
Since the system is capable of loading wheelchairs etc. at the main boarding platform, I'm pretty sure ADA would require Disney to load them there if they hadn't added the secondary loading platforms. That would cause many more problems and stops.

I believe this is the first system to implement a secondary loading area for mobility challenged passengers in this exact configuration, but it is not the first lift to implement dual loading areas.

And you are assuming that the extended stop was caused by a problem with the secondary loading area. It may have been, but I haven't seen any report that it was.

Two issues. Yes, there is a communications system but the fact you can’t hear to the point I didn’t know if it was human or tape is a problem...sounded a lot like Charlie Brown’s teacher. The other issue that was discussed was whether the “system” is clearly marked ...I didn’t notice anything stand out so I’d say no it isn’t, but then again I wasn’t looking for it either. But it probably should be clear enough so that a guest couldn’t help but notice.

I tend to agree, and wonder if this is even legal? Seems 1 out of every 3 people at the park these days is on a freaking scooter.

This last trip we were stuck on the monorail between Tickets and Transportation and the MK for at least 45 minutes. Just sitting there. Packed to the gills. This stuff happens. We found the Skyliner to be very smooth and yes at times we had delays. I think our longest was 20-25 minutes, but we were in the air and got to view the Epcot fireworks and Hollywood Studio's in the distance. Once moving it stopped and paused several times before truly smoothing out. Outside of that the Skyliner was an amazing experience for my family.

We discussed the entire situation and the lack of response, along with changes that could/should be made for these types of situations when they happen in the future
I thought they had taken care of the communication issue following the first "incident" - no?

we were on the monorail from TTC going to the Christmas party and waited to get on and then were held which delayed us a good 30 minutes before we were able to get to the party. It was annoying but it happens. No mode of transportation is perfect and maybe the communication after wasn’t there greatest but issues with the running of the skyliner have gotten much better

just an FYI there were guests wondering why they couldnt take the skyliner during rain and lightning the other night. Or ask why they can’t when it’s a certain wind. Things happen.

When I took the Skyliner a few days ago, it wasn't hard to find the communication system. I wasn't intentionally looking for it, but did see it as I looked around the cabin.

Did I try the speaker system, no, as I had no need.

I do agree that Disney should have handled the disembarkation better with apologizies along with help to getting you to your final destination.

I wish they’d put skyliner info on the app!

Other than last night when it closed down early and some rude teenagers in my gondola today, it’s been great.

The closest we got to "rude" was a pair of Japanese tourists who took pictures of everything in the gondola with us. I can't even begin to wonder how many photos I appear in when they got home. They had no invisible wall of silent-riding between them and us. Just snap-snap-snap, picture after picture, with loads of talking, laughing, and more pictures. I might end up being a celebrity in Japan.

haha!

That is one of the coolest things about WDW-going to WDW is akin to going to the Olympics or a World's Fair! :)

I feel bad for the mom and teenage daughter who got loaded in the gondola with my family- my 2 Year old spent the entire ride naming all the characters and colors of the gondolas going the other way. Loudly. And often incorrectly.

there was no wall of silence that’s for sure lol.

To be fair, a wall of silence can't reasonably be expected on public transportation. Okay, except the quiet car(s) on commuter trains :).

On Monday, me and my wife spent a cab ride between CBR and IG with a guy who I would slay was in his very early twenties, and an older woman who I assumed was his mother. Based on their conversation I assume he lived in the local area, perhaps attending college and perhaps the older woman was his mother.

The first part over the CBR buildings, we got to listen how she was so disoriented where everything was since they repainted the roofs among other things. Didn't quite understand the crises.

Then the son chimed in about why they didn't have one run from CBR to DHS and then proceeding to EPCOT. I made an attempt to explain what would happen at park closing time.

Everyone exiting Epcot going to Riveria, CBR, Pop Century, and Animation would be filling the cabs, so people exiting DHS will have no cab to enter. By having two separate lines, they divide the load. He didn't quite grasp the concept and basically shrugged me off.

I should have just bit my tongue.

I agree. To say you have to find your own way to your destination is absurd. There are already buses to DHS. Much of CBR is an easy walk, and there are also internal shuttle buses. They should have provided transportation to Pop & AoA, whether by bus, Minnie Van, 13-passenger van, taxi, or Lyft.
100% and you know acknowledging that there was an issue and those ppls plans were disrupted due to no fault of their own. Acknowledgement znd a little empathy goes a long way. Unfortunately it seems that neither of those things were a priority.

Yes I agree but we found that when matched with another family in a gondola, there was a reasonable amount of quiet reflection that occurred during the short flight from one point to the other. When alone, my two kids were all over the place in the gondola. When someone else joined us, they'd become much more quiet. The family we were joined with also would quietly talk to themselves or just ride in silence. Only during this flight with the Japanese tourists did it get really strange for my family!
