Skyliner Incident

I mean nobody died. so why all the worry?
Because, we have to react in the extreme. Nobody died and no one got hurt. But there will be those who say... "not this time" Complaining seems to be a sport now days - glass half full is not an option. For those who want to view every incident as doom and gloom - just don't ride the Skyliner. There will always be risks.

From the photos, it looks like one of the mobility gondolas tried to feed onto the main line and the main line didn’t have the space for it. That might have caused it to hit at an awkward angle.

That's what it looks like to me, too, in which case they would've been moving super slowly when it happened.

I wonder what kind of recompense this warrants. My parents always raised hell at minor inconveniences. One time there was a mistake with a Brown Derby/Fantasmic package, and we ended up with about 30 fast passes because of it. The idea of making a big deal out of anything like that makes me cringe, but this does make me wonder.

I don't know the full details of this event or how long people were on board because of it, but for the other gondola collision incident back during its opening week when everyone on board was stuck for 3 hours, we were each immediately given $100 in gift cards and a single-day park hopper comp ticket when we finally got off.

And for my group, since we had been on our way back to our car to start the 2-hour drive home when we got stuck and we no longer felt like we could safely make the drive home (especially since one member of our group had had a series of panic attacks while we were stuck), they actually gave us a hotel room and a change of clothes from the hotel gift shop to sleep in.

Their communication while we were stuck in the cars left a lot to be desired, but once we were finally back on the ground, we felt very well taken care of.

The biggest difference /issue is you are truly STUCK. OFF THE GROUND.
If you are sick or have to go to the bathroom; there is a bag and paper to relieve yourself in. Yuck !! You have a small bottle of water. Also there is very limited info to what you should do or what WDW is going to do.

I told my mother about this story and she didn't even know about it until I told her. What I think happened was that they checking the gondolas and somebody didn't watch what they were up to and the Skyliner caused a collision. What a miracle that nobody was on it and there were no deaths or injuries during the incident

6 months apart.....
18 months, actually.

But there should still be some sort of override that can tell when another car is too close (or if anything else is in the path of travel) and stops the line before they can collide.

The issue for me is the Skyliner is a closed system, all inputs are known and controlled. Whether the cabins were full or empty, there should be no possible way for this type of accident to happen.
Very much this. These gondolas are used all over the world. Maybe these incidents happen all the time and just don't make the news? But it seems strange to have 2 incidents in less than 2 years

I believe is something that happen sometimes also on the mountain.
Just less media coverage there...

When did any form of transportation work 100% - without any incidents? Did I miss this miraculous invention? Accidents happen and there is human error whether we want it or not. Disney is always under a microscope and every incident, no matter how big or small, is reported heavily. Again, it happened - it will happen again (I hope not but I am also realistic) - no one was hurt - it was fixed and we move on. I am quite sure as these incidents occur, they are investigated and corrections are made, so that they are avoided in the future, if at all possible.

This one looks related to the disabled cars coming on and off the main line which is somethig unique to the disney setup.
