The title says it all really! Will Virgin Atlantic issue one do you think? Their web site says that the cots are for up to 12 months. I will request on of their chair thingys too but feel he will sleep better in a cot. Any experiences please?

Have you bought him a seat? if not, you won't get the chair.

It all depends on how big your son is, we had the skycot for our little 'un when he was three months old, but the problem with the skycot is that every time the seat belt signs come on, you have to take the baby out the skycot and fasten them to your seat belt.
As the flight was turbulent, he was in and out like a fiddlers elbow!

they are PVC with cardboard between the layers and fold flat, so they do "give"a bit :)

Hi, yes he has got his own seat. Good point about turbulence - I just thought that the cot would give us a couple more options (and get us a bulkhead!). Would VA allocate one when he will be over one year?

theyb are never gaurenteed anyway, it depends on how many are loaded and how many want them.

Again, with bulkhead, check in eaarly to see if you can get one, but again, it will depend on the demand and how many babies are on board.

You might have a problem getting a skycot due to his age. I am not sure if its a H & S issue regarding size and weight??

We had a skycot when DS was 7 months old and i have to say he barely fit in it, I really think the seat they provide in the airplane seat is going to work better for you, thats what we did with our 2nd DS and he slept great in it, and there wasn't the pulling him out of the cot for turbulance like Obi Wan said. Hope it all goes well:goodvibes

DD was never considered a big baby but at 11 months her head touched the end of the Skycot. There is a weight limit too i think as the sky cot goes on a fold down ledge- table thingy.

The infant care chair is like a car seat, that is what you need. Our kids both slept fine in them and you dont need to get them out if there is turbulence. Do request one in advance though, they are limited in number with younger children getting priority I believe.

Mandy :)

Yes, I really agree with everyone else, I took my daughter when she was 8 months old, she is a very small baby but she even found the skycot a squeeze!! My biggest problem with it though was there is no seatbelt so she found it v.funny to sit up and lean over the edge. We had the infant care chair and she seemed to be alot more comfortable as she could see what was going on. As for whether the crew will let you have one, I am crew and always make an effort to check the weight and age of the child. If they are too heavy/old I say no for the infants own safety!!! Oh and if you have got a seat booked for your child the check-in girls told us that the parents without a seat booked for there infants get priority for the bulkheads.(not sure if this is a rule or if it just depends on who you get on the day) Hope this essay helps.

He'll be waaay too big for the skycot - 9 months was the max with ours and they were hitting both ends by that age. I dont think they'll even allow skycots for babies over 12 months as I think thats the legal age limit they are required to have.

buy a seat ... its worth every penny! and the Virgin kids seats are fine, mine loved it.

:flower3: I can guarantee your Son is too big/old/heavy for a sky cot.
Our DD was 20 months when we went in May and we had a seat for her.
We requested an infant care chair in advance and ask crew for it when we boarded it (I believe they only keep two or three on board each aircraft). On the way out it was fitted perfectly and she slept well in it, we stuffed pillows around her neck to help with support.
On the return leg, in the hurry to board everybody (after a 4.5 hr delay) I felt it was fitted poorly in a hurry and I discovered after a while a metal plate was sticking into her back :scared1: Subsequently, she slept across me most of the way home! Make sure you're happy with it before c crew is finished installing.
I was told it MUST be installed on a window seat.

I have a picture of her asleep in it, it should give you and idea of what to expect, if you want to see it PM me.
Good luck.

We had one for our DD when she was 15 months. We had to order it before hand and double check at the checkin that one had been loaded. In fact they had to get an engineer to fit it for them! She was allowed to sit in any seat as long as it was not an isle seat. In fact coming back I asked for bulkhead and they would only give us two seats. When I boarded a lady and little girl were sitting in the other two, she said that they requested it because they like more room. Since she was sitting next to my DD I had to ensure that my DD didn't kick her table or grab her as they do at that age. It would have been nice if my DH and other DD could have sat with me and we could have shared the care. Since my DD is older now I have never asked for a BH seat as I am sure there are lots of people with very young children who need them more.

Thanks guys! Will def. go with the chair thingy and book it in advance. At the moment we have been allocated two rows of the seats at the back of the 747 where it narrows into two seats at the side. I know we will be last off the plane but figured it would be easier to get in and out without having to negotiate the middle seat etc. Better than a bulkhead do you think?

hi
ive never heard of the must be seated by window seat rule and on two occasions has sat in middle seat in this care chair????, id check that one, im sure its not right
i have a pic of the chair somewwhere will look for it later x
