Hi all,

Not long ago I'm sure I saw a thread on here regarding offers available for upgrading sky to sky +. I've done a search but come up with nothing, so can anyone tell me if there are any offers on at the moment, or did they fininsh last year?

Dh was stunned by Sky + when one of our relatives showed him what its capable of during the xmas hols, so now he's pestering to get it but not for £160 he's not!!

Cheers,

Lynn
:thumbsup2

On the Sky site the cost for upgrading form Sky to Sky+ is £99:thumbsup2

It was Goofyish who started the thread a few months ago I had a letter come from sky to say recommend a friend so we exchanged details so he could apply to get it free but they wouldn't do it for some reason :confused3

In the end I went for the NTL TVDrive (soon to be renamed V+).

It works the same as Sky+ but has 3 tuners and HD built in. So you can record 2 channels while watching a third. It also has the same 'pause live TV' function and series record etc.

I tried to get a Sky+ upgrade from my Sky box but they insisted I had to pay the £99 for the box plus £60 installation. I tried various numbers at Sky, even asking to speak to managers etc. but they would not waiver the upgrade
fees.

So, I went for the NTL box and got it free with free installation. I get the same TV packages, plus me existing NTL broadband and telephone for less than the Sky+ box would have been per month.

When I phoned Sky to cancel my normal digital TV they could not do enough to get me to stay - offered me Sky+ free, installation free and a discount of the monthly subs.! Shame they didn't do that earlier - their loss!

So if you want a deal, try ringing up to cancel first :)

Someone on a money forum i go on was saying that at the beginning of Feb they are going to drop the prices of sky+ boxes and HD boxes also. We're going to wait till Feb.

Hope that is the case with HD boxes:thumbsup2

Well it was only a rumour, but i hope so to:)

We upgraded to Sky+ last year and I love it. My dilemma at the time was that we had sky multiroom and wanted to go to sky+, but had to pay around £200 (if I remember correctly) whereas if you had sky and went to sky+ with multiroom it was only £99 I seem to recall.

I spent a long time trying to explain the error of their ways based on the fact I had been a loyal fee paying customer for a number of years.

So, in the end I cancelled our existing multiroom and then upgraded our now sky only subscription to sy+ and multiroom for the cheaper rate.

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks guys for all the info. Sky do seem to be able to bend their rules every now and again, I know people who refuse to pay the engineer call out fee when they had a faulty sky box and said they would just cancel. Hey presto - free call out and repairs!

I'll make DH wait to see what offers come up. The other option I have is to cancel as its in DH's name, as he is on DLA/Incapacity Benefit following a stroke, then take a new sub out in my name. Not sure if they would let me do this, but I think you can try anything with sky!!

Cheers

Lynn

Oh and I don't think we can get NTL in our small rural village - we still had pulse dialling phones long after the rest of the country had tone dialling, and we've no gas lines, so I really don't think NTL have put their cables here yet!

Hi

I would definately recommend phoning them and telling them you want to cancel. This is how we got ours fitted for free and so did a few other friends. They want your custom. Even if they dont go for it. Cancel it anyway, but ring them up in a couple of days to re-instate it. Explain your dh circumstances and get your dh to give you permission that way you can speak to them. They might even be able to add your name to the account. Like Sky did for us.

I miss my Sky+ it was great. The dish fell off the roof and they would not replace it. It was difficult for them to install in the first place. We have high trees in our area, unfortunately the dish had to go on an extended pole, which caused many in high wind. We are now with Telewest. I know they can offer a similar package. I am not to bothered about it at the moment. If you can get them to do it for free then :thumbsup2

Hi guys,

Thank you so much for telling me all this stuff, just got off phone to sky and my sky+ is being delivered a week tomorrow for £49 installed!!!

I called the number on my sky card and they put me through to sales to see what offers were on - surprise surprise - none at the moment. So I said our box freezes up on some channels and that we weren't getting our £40 a month value (yes it really freezes on loads of channels and sometimes goes to standby, but we like the idea of sky+ so may have slightly embellished these details....) and we'd have to cancel, so he gave me phone number for cancellations.

I called a lovely scottish gent and relayed this story to him, and he said 'Well as you just said the 'cancel' word, lets see what offers I have for you'. Then he came back with the 'as you've been a good customer for so many years.....' and there was the £49 deal! So DH is happy (well he will be when he remembers where the sky cable goes under the garden!) and I'm happy with that price, plus I won't miss my programmes when a) children have non vital info to tell me at a crucial point in my prog, b) mother in law comes in and talks right thru my prog, c) DH will expire if he can't watch corrie/x factor type prog/jeremey kyle or trisha repeats! :rotfl:

Wonder what the feb offers will be - knowing my luck it'll be completely free! :rotfl2:

Oh well, I'm happy now!:thumbsup2

Cheers

Lynn

Yay. I am pleased but jelous you have it.

Why why why do we have to high trees in front of our house :sad2:

This is so useful, I'm glad I popped by on my way to the scrapping threads

DH now works for Ocado (so don't let me see any of you in a supermarket :rolleyes1 ) so often there's a series he wants to see but guaranteed he'll either be at work or else in bed ready for an early start, and he's not the best at programming a video (even without DS(13) changing the sky channel part-way through) so he's got as far as thinking about sky+. I'll have to get him to look on here:woohoo:

I understand, we live by the Hambleton Hills in North Yorks and at the top is a booster station with aerials and dishes. Our house is apparently directly in line with the signals, so when we had old analogue sky we could only get half the channels. We contacted BT who have something to do with the dishes and they came out with a mini sat dish and found that if we hid our dish from direct sight of the station we could have uninterupted signal. I kid you not. So DH repositioned our dish on the garage behind our house so our house blocked the view of the station, yes it actually worked!

This means our cable runs from the living room up to our loft, outside then under the garden.

I went home from work this lunchtime to see DH messing with existing sky cable to make it easier for installation engineer to run new cable (!) and he's cut through our cable! AAAHHHHH! Don't say I have no sky for a week! Hopefully he'll patch it up, waiting for kids phoning me in disgust when they get in from school!!
