I was not expecting to do a Disney trip in 2018 so I’ve been out of the loop and not paying attention to things Disney. Now that we’re going, Ive made ADRs and the one we didn’t get at the time we wanted was Skipper Canteen. We were able to get an earlier time but I was surprised. Earlier this year SC was one of the places that always had ADR availability and there were a lot of mixed reviews on it. Has it improved? Did you enjoy your meal there? We are having the kids do Pirates League earlier in the day so I thought SC might be fun because the server might comment on their pirate selves.

I haven’t eaten there but we have an ADR for January. In general, I’ve only seen two kinds of bad reviews. One for slow service (which doesn’t seem to be the norm but you never know) and one where they didn’t seem to be adventurous eaters and were put off by the menu. If the menu looks good to you, you should be fine. Everything is subjective though.

The food has always been good there, many just have had a problem with the more “adventurous” menu. My family ate there on our trip in May and enjoyed it. Food was good, the wait staff was very friendly, and they were very good about allowing substitutions on various sides if someone didn’t like one of the options.

We dined at SC on our last trip and it was only because we couldn't get BoG or CP. I was disappointed but needed a TS meal for a cake delivery so we went with it. And we were so pleasantly surprised. Loved the décor and ambiance, had really awesome service and we really loved the food as well. I struggled with decision for our trip next week as we only have one MK day and really wanted to do SC again. It quickly became one of our favorites.

I thought I remember reading early on that even adventurous eaters didn’t find the food to be good. But I could be mis-remembering. Either way, good to hear that people like the food. DH and I are adventurous eaters, the kids not so much yet. It looks like the tweaked the kids menu to have a couple more standard options which I’m thankful for - otherwise this wouldn’t even be an option.

I ate there last week and had a good experience. The shu mai (steamed Chinese pork/shrimp dumplings) were particularly excellent. No complaints regarding food or service. I would definitely go back. The cold noodle salad was refreshing and well-prepared.

The only thing that seemed remotely adventurous was the whole fried fish, which I did not try since I had it at Tiffins the day before. Bonus points for serving wine and beer, although the selections are very limited.

Also the head on shrimp lol. Personally, I don’t find the menu to be super adventurous at all, but many do. It is definitely adventurous for Disney, particularly in MK.

We've eaten there twice. Once when it first opened and the second time just this past August. I was not impressed on our first try. Service was slow and food was really bland. Based on our meal in August, I would say they have made VAST improvements. The food and service were very good. The atmosphere is "jungle cruise", but not over the top. A really well-designed restaurant. It's now our favorite TS in MK!

We've eaten there twice and really enjoyed it. From what I've read previously and based on our experience, the food is much better.

Skipper Canteen is one of my very favorite Disney restaurants.

Personally I don't find the menu that adventurous. That said, we all have different tastes, and if you are more a burger and fries or meat and potatoes type, it might be adventurous in that context. The food there had never let me down once and that's quite something considering I have a lot of food issues to work around.

If it is getting more popular I have mixed feelings about it. One, it totally deserves it and I want it to be successful so they don't change it. However for purely selfish reasons I loved it having lots of walk up tables so I could always grab a bite XD

Arepas and falls family falafel ( modified slightly for no dairy) they've changed the arepas to Cachapas now but it's the same sort of idea. I'm also a big fan of the tastes like chicken :thumbsup2

LOL! You have just posted exactly what I want to eat. :yay:
My plan is the falafel and cachapas as my main dish and if those change between now and May (I’m a planning a meal for May which is so wrong!) I’m going to get the tastes like chicken. I’m definitely looking forward to this meal.

We loved it! It was our first night dinner the Wednesday before last...sniff :(.

I had the noodle bowl, with chicken, sooo good. Micky had the steak, liked it. We were seated not in the large room, but one of the smaller ones. Our waitress was great!

Not a lot of choice on the wine, but had a Sauvignon Blanc which was good.

Highly recommend.

I'm a little nervous to try this restaurant. I'm pretty picky and nothing on the menu looks too great to me. We are doing Crystal Palace and I was trying to find something to potentially change it to. We are doing 1900 PF already before CP so I thought the Winnie the Pooh characters might be a little repetitive.

Try Liberty Tree Tavern.

My wife and I ate here in February... We really enjoyed the chicken dish... It was my wife's first experience at Disney World and right after that we rode the Jungle Cruise.
