Did anyone see the promos for this show? they showed it during Jersey Shore last night.
Its a show popular in the UK I guess, and MTV is doing a version.
I don't know what in the world to think about this.
My kids are too young to watch mtv, but for those out there with teens what do you think about a show like this?
glamorizing sex drugs etc in teens?

Don't think the American version could beat the original (the first two seasons of the original anyway). I won't be watching it, but I don't ever watch TV much less MTV...

You should Netflix the original, it's actually a really good show! Not for little kids though of course.

I wanted to add too that while the original had drugs as a big part of it, it was mostly about the problems teens face like drugs, eating disorders, parents that don't understand, different beliefs (about things like religion and sexuality), the whole dating game...things like that. And I really don't think they "glorified" it at all. The show really pulled me and DH in. My ringtone is actually the theme from the beginning :rotfl:

I have the UK version in my Instant Queue for Netflix, didn't know MTV was doing a US one. I haven't seen the UK one, but I'll probably take a look. I am running out of UK shows.

UGH! WHY? :confused3 The UK version was great!
What is the point of making an identical American version of Skins? Some of the stuff does not flow well! I can understand running with the idea and making new episodes but this is just embarassing.

The American playing Stanley looks a lot like my friends son. She won't be too happy about this.

Thanks for telling me how great the UK version is, I will definately make a point of watching it now.

I just have a feeling the first episode is going to be exactly the same (like the US Office was), and the rest will take a different turn. I suppose some of it will have to since this is supposed to take place in the US. I just hope they don't turn it into something crappy. I guess I can't say anything until I would see the whole season though. But if it WOULD be exactly the same, I think there would be no point in watching it.

Ooh, I hope that is what happens!
I was shocked the first episode seemed identical (based on the preview. I have not watched it). I had hoped it would be an American spin with it's own characters and what I had already heard was wrong.

It looks almost identical to the T, but of course the American Office was like that. And I really like the American AND UK versions of The Office. They're different but equally as good IMO. Maybe Skins will be like that. I don't watch much MTV so I'm not sure what kind of shows trend there. That's why I feel like I really can't judge it yet.

Back to the OP's question though, as far as the original goes, I guess I would let an older teen watch it. I don't recall any full frontal nudity or anything like that, just more implied. But by 16 I think I had been exposed to all that anyway... (at 14/15, my favorite movie was Trainspotting so um maybe that's just me!)
I also think the show as a whole was tastefully done, not a "trashy" show by any means IMO

You definitely MUST!
And it's Friday...stay up late and have fun! :jumping1:

Well, I didn't get around to it til tonight and....I'm addicted!!
I'm only 3 episodes in and I am so hooked. I adore Cassie. She is so vulnerable and sweet. And I didn't know Dev Patel from Slumdog Millionare was in it. This is a great show. The accents take a bit of getting used to, but once I have been watching for a while my ear adjusts. Thanks for the suggestion. It's soooo good. I just got done watching Jal's episode. Great show! I will not watch the MTV version.

Update: I stayed up until 2 am watching the show. I only lack one episode on the first season. This show has better plotlines and twists than an American soap. I'm addicted. The last one I watched was Effy's episode. I don't want to put any spoilers on this thread, but I was shocked at the extent Josh went for revenge on Tony. WOW. I really don't see how the US version could possibly be anywhere near as good. They will have to tone it down A LOT for US tv. A show like this would normally find a home on HBO or Showtime, not on regular cable. Don't think I'm complaining, because I'm far from it. It's just interesting the differences in UK and US television. I really don't want a watered down version of Skins, so I will keep watching the UK version!

the original UK one is one of DH and I's favorite shows...to say that I am less than excited that MTV is doing a US version is an understatement. It is gonna be so horrible. Though I'm sure we'll end up watching the first episode jsut to confirm our suspicions. I hate when we remake good british shows. The US versions never stand up to the originals.

edited to add: I just watched the promo for the US version and ugh! It's like they're trying to make it the first episode of the original, but it's just not right. The dialogue is wrong, the people are wrong, it's just wrong. Have I mentioned how much I hate US remakes of shows?

We have talked before because I remember your Moss picture! Can I just first of all say, I have become obsessed with The IT Crowd? I have seen them about three times. The 4th season looks like it's going to be available soon on Netflix. I already have it saved In Queue. :cool1:

I cannot believe how brilliant Skins is. I might have to go back and watch the first episode again, because I had a hard time understanding it and now I know who everyone is. I also watched the promo for the MTV show and I think I've already made it clear I won't be watching. The writers are wonderful. The storylines are jaw dropping. I can't wait to go to bed tonight to watch more episodes. Cassie just breaks my heart and Sid makes me mad. It does look like from the promo that the MTV version is going to copy scene for scene, from Cassie jumping on the trampoline to Chris busting out of his mothers wardrobe. I became a fan of Hannah Murray on Facebook and found out that they used a different actress for Cassie the second season :guilty:
I really, really, really love this show. Why is British tv so much better?? lol

:confused3 Hannah plays Cassi as long as she is on there...maybe you were reading about the second generation cast? The first group of kids were there the first 2 series, then they leave and it moves on to following Effy and her friends(series 3-5; 5 is filming right now). It's really different, but I do love it still...(but I'm still partial to the first gen cast!)

OT--- IT Crowd...(we could't wait and have watched series 4 online already! lol. It's just as awesome as the others!)

I'm so glad we have another season with Hannah! I like Effy, I think she is going to be interesting to follow after season 2. She doesn't say much at all so far, but I can see that changing.

Now, where did you find Season 4 of The IT Crowd online???? I need my Roy fix (it's odd, but I have a bit of a crush on him).

I LOVE Chris O'Dowd...Have you seen The Boat that Rocked('Pirate Radio' over here)? He is great in that as well. and he had another short series on over there called FM where he played a radio DJ. It was great...I'll PM you the link the series 4 IT Crowd!

Yay! Another fan :hyper:
We watched the first three episodes twice since SIL wanted to see them one time when she came over. You do catch a lot more the second time around. Especially on the first episode...I had no idea what was going on during that whole phone conversation the first time around! LOL

Exactly! I was so lost. I don't think I figured anyone or anything out until the party at the house. So I do need to watch the first one again.

Today I got started on the second season, but only watched a couple because I had some fall cleaning to do. The last one I watched was about Sid and what happened to his dad (don't want to give any spoilers, just in case someone who doesn't know the show is reading). I do have to say that one of my favorite episodes so far is the one with Sketch and her "thing" for Maxxie. That was intense!! I'm sad about Tony. That guy is a really good actor. He played his character so good both before and after the incident.
This show is like Degrassi on steroids! There are a bunch of adult Degrassi fans on here, but I'm wondering what the average age of Skins watchers is on the Dis. I'm 37, and I really don't feel like I'm too old to watch this show. The writing is so good!

I haven't seen Pirate Radio, just the commercial for it. I might have to check that out. Thanks for the PM to season 4! Between The IT Crowd and Skins, my family may not see me until spring! ;)

Well, I just had a mini marathon of The IT Crowd! I watched 4 episodes of the 4th season. Only 2 more to go:guilty:. My favorite one was the game show Moss was on and he became a member of the 8+ club. :lmao:
