Do you have any? If so, have you thought about having them removed? OR, if you've had any removed, what type of experience was it? Was it painful?

I got a LOT of skin tags when I was pregnant. The doctor told me that it can be hormonally related. They have a special machine in the office that removes them. It is not painful at all and is very quick. I wish I had that machine at home!

The doctor can snip them off with no real problem. Or you can do the same yourself with sharp manicure scissors. (How I deal with them)(smile).

I seemed to have sprouted quite a few during my 2 pregnancies, but now they are just coming up all over the place. I'm a little nervous about having them removed....

Figaro ~ I can't believe you snip them off yourself!! Doesn't that hurt????

I had the doctor remove them once (didn't hurt too bad, just a little sting) and then he told me to just snip them off myself and use a styptic pencil to stop the bleeding. I haven't had the nerve to do it myself yet.

DW Sue has had a few removed by the doctor. I prefer to just nip them off with a sharp pair of scissors (like cuticle scissors). The styptic pencil idea is a good one. I'll have to remember that.

Yeah, I've gotten those annoying things too!
The ones around my collar are a pain, always getting snagged. I've had some removed by my doctor (he just snipped them & put on a band-aid) but it was awful expensive. He said I could do it myself next time. And I did. :teeth: Okay, this is gross, but this is how I did it. I would twirl the tag a little each day, it cut off the blood supply to it. Then I got clean scissors and cut that booger right off! I was a little nervous doing it myself, but it didn't hurt at all. And it didn't bleed much either. Ewww gross...:crazy2: I think I'll change the subject now...So, hows the weather?

I had them before and they have all eventually fallen off by themselves. :)

My MIL told me she had 12 removed right after she had her DD!

Hi, Mishetta!

It stings for a few seconds, but it isn't really painful as long as the scissors are sharp and you do it quickly. I just make sure I have a cold, wet washcloth to hold against it for about 30 seconds (how long it takes to stop bleeding), put a dot of antibiotic ointment on it and then go on to the next one. If they are not really tags (with a stem), then I let the doctor take care of them because they will need to be taken off with a scalpel. The smaller they are, the easier they are to take care of, so I mostly take care of them right away when I notice them.

I've taken a few off myself too. It does bleed a lot, so you need to keep pressure on it for a few minutes. I have a lot a tiny ones on my neck, but they are too small for me to cut, so I guess a doctor will do it if I ever get around to it.

That is one tag I would NOT want :teeth:

I had one removed last fall and DH had several removed. Our doctor put liquid nitrogen on them. They swelled up, then turned dark purple, and eventually fell off. This process took over a week!!! We had no idea. We thought they'd fall off immediately. I was just glad that I didn't have anyplace special to go because it was kind of gross having this swelled, purple skin tag on the side of my neck. :(

But I really glad I had it done. The liquid nitrogen was very cold and stung just a tiny bit, but it was worth it. Not sure I could just snip one off myself! LOL

Ever since I became 40 they're poping out all over. I hate them. Thought of taking them off myself but don't really have the nerve.

Maybe I'll try it though.

I started getting them after I had Nick. I either twirl them until I snip them or I just snip them. Sometimes they bleed sometimes they don't. I guess it just depends on their location. When the Dr removed the first one all he did was snip it (maybe scalpel I don't remember) The next time I saw him I had a little bandaid on and he asked what happened. I told him I snipped a skin tag. He was shocked I did it myself and said he would never be able to do it to himself because that was gross...:rotfl: He also asked if it hurt. I told him no more then when he took the first one off:o :p He thinks I'm  for doing it myself.:teeth:

Pardon my ignorance, but what are skin tags? Obviously I have never had one.

My niece was a preemie, and had a couple skin tags when she was born. They just snip them off.......did not bother her much at all.

Reading of you people that snip them by yourself just gives me the willies!! I guess it is no different than having someone else do it.........BUT yikes.

I started getting them when I was about 40 and went to the Dr to have the first ones taken off, now I just do it myself with little nail scissors. The worst are the ones I get on my eyes. I do have the Dr take those off.

Skin Tags are like little moles without color

I get them nnow and then, too. If they are tiny I just scratch them off (I know, that sounds gross, but it's easy if they are small).

I had one removed last fall and DH had several removed. Our doctor put liquid nitrogen on them. They swelled up, then turned dark purple, and eventually fell off.

I had this procedure done, as well. It was a small one and it fell off in the tub less than a week later. I had it done to a larger one and it never scabbed up of fell off. In that case, she told me I'd have to have the nitrogen reapplied, but I haven't gone back yet.

It didn't hurt me at all. It just felt like really (ice) cold air being blown on it. I have never cut any off...sounds really painful!!
