Ski lift accident at Sugarloaf

I've been following it on the news too. Wildcat Mountain was closed today because of high winds but Attitash is open. My daughter works there and is still at work so they must be fairly busy. They send the bar/restaurant helpers home early when it is slow.

The wind is howling - I would not want to be on a ski lift in this weather. I hope everyone at Sugarloaf is OK - the news reports are saying that most injuries are minor. And I know ski patrol practices for lift evacuations so hopefully that will go smoothly as well.

this has always been a HUGE fear of mine...
Sounds like everyone is okay TG!!
maybe I'll stick to the bunny hill on my trip to Jay Peak next month

I got stuck on a lift once here in the Sierras when gusts got to 65 mph. The chairs were completely sideways and then the gust would stop and it would swing down, then gust again, etc. I was riding solo; my husband and his friend were in the chair behind me. I don't think I would have been as scared if I'd been sitting with someone. Thank goodness we were not complete idiots; we'd sent the boys back to the condo with the friend's wife when the weather had gotten nasty earlier in the day. So there was only 3 clowns needing rescue from our group.

My daughter got home from work and told me that Mt Attitash had to shutdown their lifts today because of an electrical fire in the base lodge. No one hurt, orderly lift evacuation. They put people in vans and drove them over the Bear Peak so my daughter was much busier than usual at her job! Bad day for ski areas in New England.

It is scary. I skied for yrs. and always put the idea of a chair lift mishap out of my mind. If I thought about it I never would have been able to ski.

We've skied there many times in the past.

The weather in Maine has been awful these past few days. The Sugarloaf accident was the second bad bit of news that we heard about from friends and family back in New England.

The first, and really awful news, was learning that a history teacher from our kids' former high school was killed in a weather-related car accident yesterday. His car slid off a snow-covered road in Wells, ME and hit a tree. Two of our three kids had him for a teacher. So sad.:sad2:

what a tragedy. I know that happened to me about 10 years back, one of my professors had a car accident and died on my Birthday, which was Christmas Eve. He was a great person. I still miss him to this day. He would kill me if he saw some of the sentences I wrote and the grammar that I use sometimes:guilty:

That is so sad..:( I am very familiar with the Wells area..

As for the ski lift - I would die of fright! Along with becoming claustrophobic in the past several years, I'm afraid of heights as well..
So glad everyone was rescued safely..
:goodvibes
