Hello to all , my dd is 6 and is petrified of skeletons. She seems to think there may be skeletons of old miners on Big Thunder Railroad. Is this the case? Thanks for all you advice...

Nope! No skeleton's on this ride. There are some 'bats' in a cave in the beginning.

WOW-you are fast-thanks my dd will be thrilled to hear it!!!Mahalo & Aloha:Pinkbounc

There are some bones along the track--I think they're supposed to be exposed dinosaur bones--but no people bones!

At the end of the ride just before going back into the station there are "Dinosaur" (or some other large animal) bones in the rocks on the right side of the ride.

my only suggestion for skelatons in MK is to stear clear of Pirates -- that can be quite scary if you dont like bones!

Echoing Beth's comments about Pirates...there is one skeleton right at the beginning of the ride that is pretty creepy.

Not sure you can..but you might want to try to ease his fears by letting him know the skeleton is there before you try to ride the PoC. Also let him know they shoot pretend cannon balls over your boat. Good Luck!

We can all thank Beth for sparing your child years of therapy. POC is Chock-Full-O-Skeletons.

The skeleton on BTMRR is a dinosaur that the train sort of passes under. The coaster is going faste enough and it happens so quickly it doesn't make such an impact if they're not expecting that. She may think "what was that..." but I don't think it's all that bad.

Maybe you can do a child-swap and whoever goes first can decide.

You'll be able to see the 'ribcage' as you're waiting in line for BTMRR, so that should give you an indication of how she'll do.

You guys are amazing! Thanks so much for all replies. We had already decided to stay away from Pirates, much to my DH's great disapointment. My DD just seems to be going through this thing with skeletons and we finally realized it was because of Halloween! Thanks for all the prep. I figure if she decides wants to go on BTMRR , then great but I WILL NOT force her! I read a thread here recently about these horrible parents forcing kids to ride the Dinosaur ride etc and it broke my heart. Thanks again...:wave2:

If your DH wants to ride POTC why dont you do the swap -- its not an official thing at Disney parks - but CM's will let you do it -- one stays with DD while other rides - then you switch...

Because of the way Pirates is set up they can not do a child swap, they are not able to let guests in through the exit because the boat goes through a maintenace hand off area before returning to the load (so everyone must load at the load platform). Since there is not fast pass at the attraction they do not have a way to jump a guest to the front of a line (which is what the child swap essential is doing). You can see how long the line is and decide if you want to do it twice, but child swapping at POTC is not common practice for these reasons. You can always ask and if the CM at greeter can find away they will try and help you but in my 3 years working there we were not able to accomodate child swaps.

thanks for the info Liberty -- You are absolutly right -- I didnt even think about it...

Just found this and remembered your question, so I dug back and found your post... This is the "skeleton" on Big Thunder Mountain.

:)

Thanks Libertybelle-that is a perfect picture and it gives me a very clear idea of what to expect. She would just freak out if she saw that, but I know you do go quickly past it so we will see. Maybe I won't go rushing to the ride after all! Thanks again :wave2:

She may not be tall enough for this ride anyhow right? And it's none of my business, but maybe that would be a good time for you to show her the skeleton is not real....the difference between pretend and real... She must be in 1st grade so it wouldn't be a bad idea.
