I bought a pair of new running shoes this weekend. Unfortunately, the selection in my town was horrible. No one carries Brooks and I really wanted to try on some of the new Pure series shoes, especially the Connect. Anyways, my Kinvaras had finally reached the end of the road after my last 5k this past Saturday and I decided I HAD to buy a pair of shoes.

DW and I went to every shoe store in town and looked for shoes. She was also looking for some. I run in minimalist (not barefoot style though) shoes so my type was tougher to find. I couldn't find anything I liked and even the store I bought my Kinvaras from was out of them.

The last store I went to had just received a shipment of the new Skechers GO RUN. I'd seen the advertisements for them and was a little skeptical. I tried them on and you can definitely notice a little bump on the midsole when walking. I walked out to the sidewalk and did a little sprint. They felt great! I'm a midfoot striker and that's what this shoe was designed for.

I loved the responsiveness of the shoe. They feel weird just walking around in, but all in all, I was shocked. I'll put them to the test this week with a few 3.1 mile runs before trying my 12 mile weekend run.

Has anyone else tried these? Any luck (good or bad)?

I'm glad you found a shoe that seems like it will work for you! I haven't tried these but the Runblogger, who is a proponent of mid/forefoot running and low-profile shoes, reviewed them favorably and was pleasantly surprised by how well he liked them.

I actually read his blog prior to buying them. I'm ready to go for a run in them and really put them to the test. Unfortunatly, it looks like it'll be Wednesday morning before I do. I'm working 15 hour days today and tomorrow so that doesn't leave much time for a run.

not to be a negative nancy, but just because a shoe feels great, it doesn't mean it's actually holding you.

are you familiar enough with your gait that you would see an issue if there was one? you could always have a friend use a smartphone to video you and then you can see if the shoe is holding you. It sounds like you don't have any stores near you that can do the gait analysis for you, which is the same.

good luck!

I run 25 miles per week and have been running for a year so I'm fairly familiar with what feels good and what doesn't.

I've gone on two separate 3.1 mile runs this week and have felt great in each one. I've yet to do a long run (usually do 12 mile runs on Saturdays), but the shoes have been surprisingly good in the two shorter runs.

Because they're seamless, I haven't had any issues with rubbing or blisters like I usually do with new shoes. They're extremely light much like my Kinvaras and since they have the mid-foot "smart shoe" landing area, I can still use a minimalist approach to running without beating my mid-foot into the pavement.

I've been very happy so far. I know it's a small sample-size thus far, but I'm happy to have them in the rotation. Even if I only used them for short runs, they'll prove their worth.

I never would have considered buying Sketchers for running shoes. I'm glad you found something that works out for you! Keep us posted on how they work on longer distances, I'm curious about that.

Will do. I've been seeing them advertised in Runner's World for months now, but never took them seriously. I went to the last shoe store in town becaue someone said they thought they carried Brooks. The guy at the register was an avid runner and said unfortunately they didn't carry Brooks. He showed me the GoRuns and said he didn't personally like the feel, but he was more of a heel striker. He commented though on how good they felt on his feet.

It's really more like wearing a slipper in both relation to weight and feel. I HAD to make a purchase that night so I decided to give them a try. I'm buying at least 2 pairs to rotate in my running arsenal. I figured worse-case scenario, it would be my secondary or emergency pair.

The host of "The Marathon Show", Joe Taricani, recently purchased a pair of these and he loves them.

I am not very knowledgeable on the whole minimalist running phenom. I was thinking of getting a pair for casual day use (instead of wearing regular tennis shoes) but I do not even know where to start.

Are there some good sites online that explain the benefits of using minimalist shoes, how it affects your running style, and the most effective way of evaluating shoes?
