The regular Sizzix or the Sidekick?

I have been hesitant about buying either because I just don't know how much I'll use it and the diecuts are sooooo expensive! But the more I read on this board about how much people love theirs, I WANT ONE!!! :bitelip:

I am trying to justify the purchase price by saying that I can use it for school stuff too (I'm a teacher), not just for scrapping. So with all that said, which would you recommend and why? TIA!

I don't have both, but opted for the Sizzix after researching it.

It uses the Sizzlets dies & embossing folders as well as the regular Sizzix dies.
I don't have a need to carry it around with me. (This sucker's heavy!!)
I got it for $40 last week at ACMoore, while Michaels had the Sidekick for $35. (Both were sales, not coupons.) For the $5 difference, you get a lot more for your money with the big one IMHO.

I have to agree with Deb. The regular Sizzix gives you the versatality to use both Sizzlets (with the converter) and regular dies while the Sidekick can only use the Sizzlets. You will get a lot of opinions but I find the large dies the most versatile (circles, squares, tags, etc.).

If you can only get one, get the Sizzix. My kids use mine for all their poster projects. I have the shadow ABC's and a few others. It is great to be able to punch out letters for the kids instead of drawing them.

If you are a teacher... you most Definately want to invest the $.
But it on sale, and dies can be had with 40% off coupons.

I'm a "class mom" I am always using different die-cuts to send teacher and she LOVES them.
Makes it easier on the eyes with the way 2nd graders "create"
Don't know if AC Moore is in Georgia, but here they have all sizzix on sale for 40% off. That would make the machine $47.99 and a $13.99 die is $8.39

Trust us.. you'll be hooked in no time :rotfl:

I just ordered a Wizard made by Spellbinders. I was debating a loooong time trying to decide if I would use a die cut machine enough to buy one. I have seen some dies that I want for a project, that I think I would never use again. But as I keep scrapping, I realize that I would reuse a lot of the dies. But then I liked the quickutz because the dies are smaller and that would help with storage, but it seems sissix has so many more choices. My scrapping buddy has a sissix that I can borrow anytime I want to also. The wizard is light, about 4 1/2 lbs. and you can use any of the above systems dies including their own, and it will emboss with any brass stencil. Any review that I read about it was favorable. It can also set eyelets and emboss metal. The biggest deterent is that it is a lot more expensive, and I couldn't find any stores that sell it, so I ordered it from the manufacurer, it is $130. (Many websites either sell it for that or $150) DH is getting it for me as a gift so I decided to go for it. I hope I don't regret it.

The versitility is why I got the Sizzix. Plus, the dies are at a price, I can ask for them as gifts at birthdays, anniversarys, holidays etc....
