Okay, I have been reading around at other posts, and came up with a question. I am 5'4", and am currently at 159.4 pounds. I have been reading about people around my same height fitting into size 12, and being able to fit into size 10 by about 140 pounds. I am in 14s, played around with some 12, and they were not even close. Just wondering what sizes, weights, and heights others are at. I feel so discouraged!!

I think a lot of it depends on where your weight is. I'm currently around 225 and 5'4 and wear 16/18 (depending on the item and store) When I was in college and weighed 170 I wore 12/14.

I am 5'5" and weigh 204 and can wear some 16's mostly 18's.

Me: 5'3" and 150 lbs. I wear 12 to 14. Sounds like we are in the same ballpark. It also depends on where you shop. I find some stores, like Lane Bryant, to be more generous with their sizes, but I do love their stuff.

I get so confused about sizes - cos in the UK our sizes are one up from yours.

I'm 5'6" weighing 176 and am now in a US 12 (or a 14 if they're very tight jeans) All my weight is around my middle so whilst things slipp easily up to my hips - they tend to get stuck there!!. Also being rather large in the chest area means I have to get shirts and tops in a 14 rather than a 12, either that or they look way too tight!!

I am 5'2" and at the moment am at 163. My Jeans are a size 14, but I can wear some size 10's & 12's in shorts. Last year when I went down to 149 I was wearing some size 8 shorts.

I think a lot of the differences can also come in how the manufacturer makes the clothing. In jeans, I also have to find a brand that makes short or petites.

I am 5 ft on the dot. I weigh 123 pounds and am wearing a size 6, for the first time in over 20 years :)

I can't go any smaller than 18 and I'm your height but heavier than you. I would love to go down another size, soon.

It seems to me that sometimes people who weigh a lot more than I do can wear a much smaller size than I can. I suppose they are much taller?

Baby Tigger,
Don't even worry about it. I weigh the exact same amount as you do. I'm an inch taller and also a size 14. Just keep at the weightloss and you'll see a lower number on that tag in no time. I know my 14s are strating to get loose and I'm looking forward to pulling my 12s out of the back of the closet.

well I am 5'9" and when I was at my absoloute thinnest at 140 I was still a size 10 and sometimes 12.

Now at 220 I am in a size 20 bottom (almost can fit in an 18) and 16-18 top

I know several people my height who can get down to a 6/8.

I would just settle on being able to buy clothes at a normal store :)

I am on day 5 of induction and haven't lost a pound....but I will stick with it a little longer.

I carry all my weight in my hips (thanks to family genetics!) so my sizes run bigger than I've seen posted here. I'm 5'5" and currently 147 pounds. I've just graduated from size 14 down to size 12 shorts. Tried on a pair of 10's yesterday and while I could get them on, they were NOT comfortable. While I'd LOVE to be down to a size 8 some day, I don't really know if that will ever be possible.

I'm 5'2", weigh 129, and typically wear a size 6. I think the size really does depend on the manufacturer though. For example, I think Old Navy clothes tend to run big. I even bought an Old Navy size 2 dress this summer - which is absolutely crazy to me.

I think it also depends on your build and whose clothes they are. Some brands I can wear a smaller size while others I am almost 2 sizes bigger!

everyone is different and every BRAND is different too! do you exercise? a step further - do you workout with weights?? Muscle weighs more than fat, but fat takes up more room! If you are lean and strong and muscular like TigH (where is that bicep picture when you need it!) You can wear a slinky size 6 around 140 or a bit lower! of course she's taller than you, or I for that matter just thought I'd give her a plug ;)

I'm 5'4" and am in-between and 8 and 10 right now. My goal is lower 130s and I hope for comfy 8s at that size. I could wear 10s in the high 140s even 150.

Measure yourself! That is a great way to make goals and see progress. Decide what is important to you - a size or a body fat percentage goal, or just where you'll feel good about yourself! Then - don't compare yourself to anyone! (that's the pot calling the kettle black I know!) We all carry the weight in different areas and have different body fat percentages! that's ok. Look at yourself in the mirror everyday and tell yourself how beautiful you really are (because it's true!) and know you are WORTH the success you will achieve from the changes you are making in your lifestyle!

then - don't worry about numbers - any kind!

I'm 5'4" too!
I am wearing an 8 (I just got into an 8 comfortably). I started out on Atkins on Apil 1 wearing a 12 (and they were getting very tight). I've lost 16lbs so far.
I think a lot has to do with individual fram sizes too. I'm very small boned, there are some people with bigger bones than I and they are the same height.
Don't get discouraged, it does take some time, but with determination you will be dropping sizes before you know it!

elisebutt - We must have a similar body shape. I also carry most of my weight in my upper body. It's nice to have narrow hips and thighs, but I would give anything to have a flat stomach just once! Also, I'm a "d" cup so my tops always have to be bigger then my bottoms, which is a pain when buying swimsuits!

I'm at 140 lbs. right now (5' 5") and I fit mostly in size 8's but as others have mentioned, it really depends on the brand. I can wear a 6 in Old Navy and Abercrombie & Fitch but I tried on a pair of Levi jeans the other day in a size 9/10 and couldn't even zip them! It's really a pain when you have to drag several sizes of the same item into the dressing room with you!

But I also agree with ohMom - don't get too caught up in the numbers. No one sees them but you anyway! ;)

I'm 5' 8" and between 138-140 (up an down over the last few weeks). I fit into a size 6 in Calvin Klein and they fit just right. I have on size 8 khaki capris from Old Navy that fit just right too. I have two pairs of size 8 jeans (capri and regular) from Old Navy that I can wear, but they are wicked loose on me. I think it just depends on the brand. I also have some old Levi shorts that are size 11 and they are loose, but the way they are cut makes me think anything smaller wouldn't fit right.

I started out on WISH at 159 pounds wearing size 12 Old Navy jeans that were starting to get too snug and they were the only pants I had that fit!!!!

Everyone is different and everyone carries their weight in different places. Also, if you are making muscles, you could still weigh in heavier than you are shooting for and fit into a smaller size than you think! ;)

BabyTigger,

Don't be discouraged--You look great! It's amazing what 30 lbs can do. As the pounds continue come off your clothes size will continue to decrease as well!

Just take it one day at a time and remember where you were 6 months ago.

Sis
