Question, my nephew is coming from seattle next week and we are taking him for his birthday, and i know he will want to go on all the rides. I was wondering if anyone knew if there is really a size limitation for space mountain? Im 5'9 about 3bills, but im wide, so its not just all in my belly, i used to wrestle in high school and college, so im thick as well. i just really dont want to wait in line, and than try to fit, and face that embarrassing moment if i cant ride it, would probably ruin my day. any suggestions or aanswers you might have?

thank you

Im 6' tall and weigh 290 and I havent had an issue with SM. Its not the most comfortable fit but I make it and have fun.

Both my DH and my BIL are 6' plus and 300+....neither have had any problems fitting on any ride but Goofy's Sky School and that was due to the size of their legs.

Some rides in parks have a size and weight limits for children. Is it possible there's no set excess weight to size guidelines is because heavy people will say they are being discriminated against? They could sue saying they paid the same admission fee and not being given the same freedom to ride as everyone else. I'm overweight but not so big it would cause concern. But if there were ever a question of whether a ride is safe for me due to my size I'd want to know.

People find any excuse to scream prejudice and sue. I worked in a bar when a woman entered with her 5 yr. old daughter. I told her the girl couldn't be in there because she wasnt 21. The next day a NAACP lawyer came in to sue me and the company. The woman wanted $500,000 stating I was prejudice tward her african american daughter. We showed him a video tape proving the girl with her was white (not the same child she had showed the lawyer) and the case was dropped. That night my car windowshield was beaten out- perhaps that woman was prejudice against my black car!

Yea thats the only problem I ever have with rides at DL, some dont have much leg room and my knees are crammed against the wall of the ride. The worst one for me is Autopia. I cant sit behind the steering wheel because my legs are too long and wont fit. I had to sit in the passenger seat and reach over with my foot and arm.

DH has problems fitting on most rides at local fairs and other amusement parks. They CAN prohibit him from riding because the seat restraint doesn't latch fully with his size. It has nothing to do with a fear of discrimination. Disney just does an excellent job to ensure their seating and safety restraints accommodate everyone. For example I just read that the new Luigi's Tires are built to accommodate up to 650 lbs per vehicle.

Some rides have to be careful of weight distribution (Space Mountain for example), but the CMs are trained on distributing weight throughout the vehicle appropriately (sometimes thats why they don't fill the train) and if they don't get it quite right, the safety mechanism actually sends the train to a side station so they can redistribute weight correctly.

thanks for the replies i really appreciate it.

(im not one that would try and sue disneyland for not letting me on a ride, if they tell me it wouldnt be safe, im gonna listen, i dont want to put myself or anyone else on the ride in danger, because i want to be stubborn. I just would feel like crap trying to fit in a ride, and not being able to, thats all i was saying)

I know! I was just addressing the PPs comments.

You could probably ask a cast member at the entrance if they think you'd have a hard time fitting? Awkward question to ask tho, I know. I bet you'd be ok..I've seen some pretty thick guys get in there :) Like others said, the biggest problem would probably be those who are super tall in addition (I hear more complaints about tall than wide!)

That is a very funny, yet scary story! As a business owner, those people are always stressful because even if you know they're crazy and have no case, they can cost you time and money defending yourself.

Currently, weight is one of the few things that is open season for discrimination. There are no federal laws preventing it (in the War on Obesity, I guess we are enemy combatants? ;)).

I agree with 3Minnies1Mickey; DLR is more concerned about rider comfort and acommodating the most families possible.

I agree with EmmersIsthe Mommy. The greeter will know or will find out for you if there is a set policy. I rode Space Mtn at Wdw last week (totally different trains and seating, I know) and was surprised and pleased that the cm suggested a particular seat for me due to leg room. I'm 6'4" & 255. Sometimes one or two seats in a ride vehicle are slightly different due to front row, wheel configuration underneath etc. I usually find crossing my ankles helps to make my legs fit in rollercoasters.

If you are super-concerned, you could stop by Guest Relations at City Hall.

Which I LOVE them for. It's just an oasis of kindness in a harsh, harsh, MEAN world.

There's no set limits. You either fit or you don't. With your size, I doubt you'll have problems with Space except maybe squished legs.

Goofy's Sky School, if your legs have much size to them (and with the wrestling/thick statement, you might not have spindly legs) you might not be able to ride. You have to figure it out QUICK with that ride, as they want you to go go go. Given my husband's experience with it (when it was Mulholland Madness) and with some disgusting fellow guests...I'd skip it. He was a bit bigger than you at that time, and he's an inch or two taller than you, and his legs just couldn't get out of the way enough to let him get the restraint down. Then, because he was sitting with our son who was only 5 at the time, I had to get out and move, and it just made everyone anxious. He won't even try now. We're both in Weight Watchers now (yay!) but I don't know if he will EVER try that ride again.

DH, now much bigger than you, has no problems with California Screamin', you might be happy to know. He doesn't love Astro Orbiter b/c it's so awkward, but it's awkward for almost anyone especially if you're riding with a little kid, LOL.

A key thing to do when getting on a ride with a *seatbelt* (Tower of Terror, Indiana Jones, Soarin' are what come to mind; there might be more) is to pull the seatbelt out ALL the way while you are still STANDING. Then sit, and with that seatbelt out all the way still, buckle it, and then let the slack go. Oh, Star Tours is another with a belt. It's just far too difficult to have to pull it out bit by bit while trying to find the latch, etc etc.

Best of luck! I think that, apart from Sky School, you won't have much of a problem at all. :goodvibes

Oh! And for the Pooh ride, sit in the FRONT! It's the best for those with size needs and bad knees. Just a touch more room.

This!

And yes, various spots are different on various rides. DH is a big guy and 6'5". Sometimes they will have him sit in a spot for more leg room. By the way, depending upon where you are tall (legs, waist up) can also matter. DH fits on Space Mountain, but he has long legs and his knees jam into the front and he just can't do it anymore --- the fast turns just hurt way too much. Talk with the greeter. You won't be the first --- or last --- to ask.

thank you so much for your answers, its helping to put my mind at ease, that i shouldnt need to worry to much. i was able to go on star tours and indiana jones no problem, did as you had mentioned, and pulled the seat belt before sitting down

thanks again, cant wait to share disney with my nephew

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone for your tips, i was able to go on every ride my nephew wanted to go on, and be comfortable as well, so thank you for all your help

My rule of thumb is this; if one does not believe that they will fit comfortably in X ride, then don't ride it. If one knows they will be uncomfortable, don't ride it. If one thinks they will become sick, or scared, again, don't ride it.

Whatever you may decide O/P have a nice visit.

~~ I love you Phil and you will forever be with me! Forever my very best and most special friend! I love you to no end. ~~
